Need Help to Get Urine Odor Out of My Carpet

I use a great product that is called either pets and kids or kids and pets. I can never remember and I'm out right now. I buy it at WalMart and Target in the carpet cleaning supply section. It is non toxic and works great. It takes out all kinds of stains and any orders left behind.

My grandmother is very wise at 80 years old and her house is in perfect order and odor(HaHaHa). She swears by using white vinegar and hot water together to get a smell out of the carpet. Try it!!!

I always use oxy clean with hot water. I let it soak for about 5-10 minutes and the soak it up. I have 3 dogs and if one has an accident this always works! Hope it helps!

When my daughter was potty training and we had night time accidents, I used oxiclean on all the bedding and everything and it was the only thing that would take the urine odor out of it. Hope it works for you!

Maybe try pet stain or pet urine carpet cleaner, such as Woolite's brand or Lysol's brand. I know for pet accidents it helps tremendously, and may indeed help with human urine stains and smells - good luck!

Hi L., I know it's driving u nuts having an odor in your new carpet, I can relate. If your unable to find a solution to take the odor out I suggest you contact the boys parents and have them contact their home owners insurance and file a claim or I think you can claim it on your home owners, they might go after the other insurance co for the new carpet. Try using the spray on Resolve for pet odors. It does a great job on any urine or vomit for us. Sometimes I have to go over it a couple of times, but it always comes out.

The pet store recommends using vinegar to take the smell of dog urine out of the carpet. I'd give it a try.

You may want to try white distilled vinegar. Pour a little on the carpet and let it dry. Try it again if the odor continues. Hope this works

You can try vinegar and water

Another product I saw at a trade show was Urine Off. I have not personally tried it but understand that it works quite well. http://www.urine-off.com/ I remember them saying that it worked on human waste as well as animal waste. You will likely see this on their website but you can also use a blacklight to locate the exact stained area so you do not have to treat more area than necessary.

You might also try the http://www.urinegone.com/ I have used this product when I first got my dog and it worked well. This product can be bought in most discount or pharmacy stores that sell the as seen on tv products. You can also get a kit with a small blacklight.

Hope that info is of some help and you can get your carpet odor free again.

Have you tried vinegar?

try using a vinegar/water mix, one part vinegar to three parts water. I know this works with pet urine to stop them from going there again, but I'm not sure it works with human urine.

I called my home owners about a similar incident, my Insurance
Co. covered it and I got new carpet in my living room.

Hi I was just thinking of posting a tip on the site yesterday about this. I found that team mule borax found way on the top shelf of the laundry aisle works wonders. For carpet you can just sprinkle it on like you would baking soda leave it over night and vacuum it up the next morning. You can also use it on the furniture, if you mix about 2 tbs with about 1/2 cup of warm water and mix until dissolved and wash the furniture with the mixture let it completely dry the odor will be gone. The borax is like a mothers' best friend you can use it to make flubber, to whiten clothes, to clean just about any household thing you can imagine! Hope it helps, good luck.

Try white vinegar. It should be put in a spray bottle and then lightly mist it and blot it to dry. It will smell like vinegar for a bit, but it will go away. Good luck!

Natures Miracle (found near pet odor/stain remover). It remove will the stain and odor...pour it on, cover with plastic bag and ta da, it will be gone in a few days. Weird system but I swear it works. I have two dogs and have had to do this on my carpet and my matress cover for my bed. No smell, stain or rings.

I agree with Wendy. Try vinegar first (cheapest) and usually does the job. Good luck!

It sounds like what you've done should work... BUT, one more thing you could try is a solution of 1/2 white vinegar and 1/2 water. Vinegar is a natural disinfectant and while it doesn't smell nice at first, it does neutralize odors. I keep it in a spray bottle and use it often (with 5 kids- 4 of them boys and they sleepwalk/pee around the house!) Just spray the area heavily, blot it up, and scrub with a wet cloth. Hopefully that does the trick. Good luck!

I agree that spraying white vinegar works well. I've also used a product by the company Earth Friendly called Everyday Stain & Odor Remover that works wonders. Sorry, to here about your problem. My husband owned a carpet store for over fifteen years. I told him about your dilema. He informed me that the you will have to remove the carpet & pull the padding up also. That is the only way to see the extent of the damage. Then deodorize the floor and use clorox.
Please let me know what you decide.

L. - I am so sorry to hear that... that sucks. I would recommend you pouring white vinegar on and around the area and letting it sit - then steam clean it - I used this to eliminate cat urine and it worked... so I would be it would help you. Best of luck! A.

Visit your local pet store or vet. There's a product called Urine Off. Soak the spot in it heavily, blot it, soak again, blot it, and then let the third application dry on the carpet. It's an enzyme based product for pet stains, and works really well. Took care of the accident on our couch like a dream.

I use the Get Clean line from Shaklee. The combination that I recommend is the Nature Boost Stain Remover and Basic H. The products are non-toxic and biodegradeable. They are safe for your home and the environment. I have used this combination many things, including spilled beer, green paint, and cat throw up. I have berber carpet that is very hard to clean. There is product called Urine Gone. I believe you can get it at Rite Aid. I've also seen it on info commercials. The T.V. showed it being used with a black light. You could see the urine and when you sprayed the Urine Gone the lite up area disappeared. Just make sure it goes deep enough. Even if the carpet is clean, the pad may smell.(poss. even the wood below)

If all else fails, Cling toilet bowl cleaner cleaner get smells out of anything. I would be VERY concerned about the chemicals in this not being safe, specially where your child would be in contact. IF you choose this route, I would rent a carpet extractor and repeatedly rinse and suck out fresh water after for safety purposes. Smelly diaper pails, trash cans filled with water and 1 cup of cling soaked over night will be totally refreshed. Smelly mildewed camping clothing can be freshed up by adding Cling to the laundry cycle too. Again I would RINSE RINSE RINSE. THIS STUFF SCARES ME, PERSONALLY. But...it does work.

Try "host'. You should be able to find it at a local True Value or Ace. Or google it for a location. It's a dry carpet cleaner (as opposed to wet). You can spot stain or have your entire carpet cleaned and it works GREAT. We just moved our two year old into a different bedroom where the cats spent a lot of time. We have the carpets hosted first and it reduced the odor, stains and allergens a ton. My husband has severe allergies and could hardly go in that room and now doesn't even notice it.

Plus it saves on the carpet and pad because it's a dry cleaner and doesn't 'soak in'.
