I am having trouble thinking of new things to feed to my 11 month old boy. He is in daycare throughout the day and he is getting ready to move up to the next level. We are in the process of transitioning him from bottle to sippy cup, but he doesn't seem to be getting the hang of that! When he moves up, he will no longer be given a bottle and he will eat food that the daycare provides. I am trying to get him ready for the next step up but I can't think of many meal/snack ideas. Right now, he is still on baby food (3rd foods) but he is eating some regular foods as well. I am especially having a hard time thinking of foods for breakfast that are fairly quick and easy. I am far from a chef!!!! Any ideas??? Thank you !!!!

For breakfast, my sons at that age also loved muffins. I'd make a box on Monday and reheat one a day for him. They also loved biscuits and sausage. You can brown the sausage like you would ground beef into tiny little chunks. Of course, that required cooking, so was a Saturday morning meal while I was working :). Waffles also were a favorite. You can buy flavored waffles if you don't want to mess with the syrup which can get quite sticky. They also love toast - peanut butter, cinnamon, or buttered. My oldest son loved the Gerber oatmeal with a jar of baby food fruit swirled in it. He ate that every morning until he was well past his 2nd birthday.

As for dinners, I'd give him whatever we had - just chopped super tiny. I would use the Pampered Chef food chopper to get it super diced. WHen they were this age, meatloaf and mashed potatoes was one of their favorite meals. Spaghetti was also a huge hit every time! (Still is in fact)

The best thing that I ever read and used for feeding my four children was a book called "Super Baby Food"--it was featured on Good Morning America and is simply "the bomb" when it comes to ideas for quick and nutritious food for babies. It will tell you all sorts of great info along with what to feed baby when for allergy prevention, etc...It is an expensive book that I highly reccommend to any new mommy! Hope this helps!

We skipped 3rd foods as well. After reading the labels, regular food was usually more nutritious and much cheaper than 3rd foods or graduates. Here goes my list...

chicken vienna sausages cut in half lengthwise
diced fruit cups in light syrup or fruit's own juice
spaghetti o's
all types of fruit
instant oatmeal is a life saver
cheerio's mixed with yoplait fat free yogurt
scrambled eggs
frozen waffles toasted with no syrup (too messy)
Swanson frozen dinners (mac & chz, chicken fingers/nuggets, fish sticks, salisbury steak cut up) are much cheaper than kid's cuisine. These are usually .99 cents each for lunch or dinner in a pinch.
Any frozen dinner that is soft is good - lean quisine, michelina's etc.
Nutra grain bars are really good snacks/breakfast in a pinch

Don't be afraid to let your baby eat what you eat with really few exceptions as long as he is chewing properly and the food is soft enough for him.

Not necessarily a breakfast food, but my son LOVED cheese toast. Basically it's a cheese single toasted on top of a slice of bread...then cut it up into little bites. Also, instant oatmeal with fruit mixed in is quick and easy.

R.,
My son just turned a year and I am like you, I have no idea what to feed him. I do give him things that we eat, but I'm sure he gets bored eating the same old thing all the time. He loves Cheetos puffs, fish sticks, chicken strips and chicken breasts, green beans, grilled cheese, new potatoes w/butter & dill, ham chunks, ground beef, banana's quartered, diced apples, and tiny cut up grapes. His sitter says that there are TV dinners that are called Kid Cuisine's and she give that to the kids on Fridays because she doesn't really have to cook and it's got the meats and veggies in one easy place. Takes the guess work out. Also lunchables puts out a lunchable Jr with chunks of ham or turkey, chunks of cheese, and mini ritz crackers. They are like $1.99 for 2.

So hopefully this helps a bit and if you don't mind, I'm going to use some of the tid bits of insight from the other moms that you've received.

My daughter skipped 3rd foods. All she wanted was table food so I have tried to come up with ideas. Here is what I do.
Breakfast -
Toast with cream cheese
all fruit - blueberries, grapes, banannas, strawberries, watermelon, peaches (fruit cups), manderien oranges
applesauce, yogert, cottage cheese with fruit
cheerios, whole wheat frozen waffles, precooked sausage patties
Lunch - lunch meat, all canned veggies - lima beans, peas, carrots, asparagus, green beans, blackeyed peas, black beans,
ground beef, ground turkey, grated cheese, grilled cheese, hummas, tuna, salmon, whole noodles with tomatoes sauce and diced tomatoes, gerber graduates
As far as the sippy cup - ma daughter wanted nothing to do with one. On the night before her 1st BD I put away ALL bottles. She help put for about a day and then gave in and we use nothing but sippy cups. Good Luck!

Breakfast

Waffles, pancakes, or french toast with stage 1 or 2 fruit puree instead of syrup

Oatmeal sweetened with puree'd fruits

Soft bananas, raspberries, mandarin oranges (less acidic than regular oranges),

Muffins

Toast (again with fruit puree instead of butter or jelly)

scrambled eggs (grate some zucchini in it for a veggie boost you can grate the zucchini ahead of time and freeze it!)

Those are some of our favorites. Let me know if you need other meal ideas!

My son is 13 months. I sometme make him some biscuits with veggies, cheese and meats inside. I get the low fat crescent rolls. I ususally take too of the triangles and make them into a square so it is easier to roll. Then put your filling in the middle, roll them up and cook according to the package directions. Let them cool and put them in the frig. (My son likes them better cold than hot)You can cut them up into strips that are easy for them to hold. My son loves them. They are great to bring to restaurants too.
Here are some things that I have put as fillings:
- cooked sweat potatoes with a little brown sugar
- peas, carrots and low fat cheese
- ham and low fat cheese
- brocoli and low fat cheese

For breakfast, my son LOVES instant oatmeal. I put just a little water in it, so it is really thick and easy for him to eat. He also sometimes eats those Gerber cereal bars if we are in a hurry with a side of frut. He likes bananas and toast too.

My daughter LOVES the Gerber Lil Entrees. She is almost 4 yrs and would still eat them all the time. I now feed her what we eat, but til she turned 3, she ate these all the time. THey have the meat and the veggies in one pack. I don't like to cook much so these were just easy too--as well as healthy! :)
