I have 12 month old daughter that has been eating jar food for six months and she needs to start eating table foods. She is moving up in her daycare and they will start feeding her table foods. I am a first time mom and I don't know how or what to feed her. Any suggestions what to feed her to start?

What can I do next?

Hi,

I would caution you not to rush giving table foods. Your baby will indicate that she is ready for them.
My child is 13.5 mo. and has just started to feed herself with soft peas without the skins, soft rice, even meat. She did this suddenly, so I am really surprised. She is my 3rd child, so I have some experience with this. I still feel surprised. (She is not ready for the dry cereals, though many kids her age are.)
For quite awhile she has been eating lumpy cereal--baby oatmeal or rice cereal with just a bit of water or mixed with fruit baby food. Is your baby doing this? This makes for a nice transition to table food. Also, since this is your first baby, I'll say that she might be interested in touching the food without eating it. And don't be alarmed when she first eats it. It is likely to come out looking very much like it did when she ate it! She is still exploring. A lot of trial and error will be involved, too, to see which foods she likes.
Have fun with this. I mainly want you to know that your baby will give you cues. You and baby, not the daycare, should be the ones who decide what she eats.

just try some little things at a time.usually the dr. says to start giving them food they can grab and feed themselves like cherreos, bits of banana .gerber has the little jars of mixed fruit pieces apples pears.baby yougurt.once they have real food they wont eat the jar for much longer because its so bland.soon they will want to eat whatever you are.just cut it really tiny,i have 3 kids my youngest is 2 and he was eating tacos w/ us at a 1 year thats just because he wanted what everyone else had.but my oldest couldnt eat hard chips until he was almost 3 he used to choke on everything. all kids are different.

My kids loved fish sticks, spaghetti, bananas, dole diced peaches with juice, applesauce, yogurt. You could also feed peas or cut cooked carrots. I basically started with really soft foods. Good luck.

You can feed her so much stuff now. She can really just eat anything your family eats as long as it is cut up very small. Cheerios are great practice for them to learn to feed themselves (easier to grasp) Bananas, avocados, peas, anything soft and not too chewy.

My one year old eats cheese, cheerios, fruit that is soft and cut very small, chiken cut up, cooked veggies, and anything soft that i can cut small and put on a spoon or he can pick up. I run out of ideas sometimes too but i try to feed him whatever we're having. Last night i cut up pizza really tiny and gave it to him. He only has a few teeth so im very cautious about choking hazards.
