So our twin's first birthday party is coming up in a few weeks and i'm in planning mode! The one project i'm working on is pulling together a fun playlist of music for background to the party.
I'm hoping to get a good mix of "adult" music and fun "toddler" music. Its going to be a small party (only maybe 20 or 25 adults, a few tweens and 3 other toddlers) and the music will be on just quietly in the background for about 2-3 hours, but i would still love some fun ideas!
So far i have songs like:
Stuck Like Glue by Sugarland (my son's FAVORITE song, his smile is huge every time he hears it)
Why Don't We Just Dance by Josh Turner (my daughter's favorite song)
Safe & Sound by Matthew West (my husband's song for them)
Been Watching You by Rodney Atkins
and i was going to pick some random VeggieTales and Disney songs we have on CD
Any suggestions for other fun toddler music or music about children/family??
Thanks for any ideas!! :)
Thanks so much for all the suggestions! I ended up with mostly VeggieTales & Disney, but mixed in few Beatles songs and a few other songs that have been meaningful to us through our infertility, pregnancy, NICU and parenting journies. The party went great! And I'm definitely using some of your suggestions for our every day music listening too :) Thanks again for the help!

Check out Laurie Berkner, Dan Zanes and Music for Aardvarks and Other Mamals/David Weinstone. You can sample most of the music on Amazon.com and you might even be able to check out these cd's from your local library. The Backyardigans have a couple of cd's out with a few cute songs. Also, my 4 year old walks around singing Baby Beluga all the time so you might want to check out Raffi too.
My daughter's favorite Laurie Berkner songs are: Victor Vito, I'm Gonna Catch You, Boots and The Goldfish song.
P.S. - One of my daughter's favorite songs right now is "Somebody Else Calling You Baby" by Luke Bryan. It's cute to see her bopping her head around in her carseat singing to it on the radio
My 3.5 year old daughter loves Kidz Bop 19. It's current pop music sung by kids for kids. It's easy on adult ears too since the songs are recognizable, current and clean for little ears. Tweens should like it too. They have various editions of it. Check on Amazon or iTunes.
Here is a track list:
1. DJ Got US Falling In Love Again
2. Firework
3. Just The Way You Are
4. Dynamite
5. Cooler Than Me
6. Airplanes
7. Club Can't Handle Me
8. Bulletproof
9. Animal
10. Just a Dream
11. Mine
13. Please Don't Go
14. The Time
15. The Only Exception
16. Somebody To Love
Laurie Berkner Band is awesome for toddler music!
Ziggy Marley's CD, "Family Time" is AWESOME!!!
Love my family by the roots, hello goodbye by the Beatles and anything by Laurie Berkin.
My kids love all the songs on "An Album to benefit The Preservation Jazz Hall Band & The Preservation Hall Outreach Program" . It's New Orleans Jazz and they LOVE it. Not really about family, but it's good dancing music even if you don't use it for the party! Have fun :)
I love the whole Family Time CD by Ziggy Marley. Very adult and child-friendly!
They Might Be Giants has a couple of kid CDs
Trout Fishing in America (my 4 yo loves them right now)
Captain Bogg and Salty (pirate music in various styles - maybe older toddlers)
some songs we have loved to dance to through the years (my son is now 7 and my daughter is 3) are:
"i don't feel like dancing" by the scissor sisters
"upside down" jack johnson
"the impression that i get" the mighty mighty bosstones
"all star" smashmouth
"give up the funk" from the glee soundtrack
"green light" john legend
hope these are useful! have a great party!
We love Laurie Berkner! She's a great children songwriter/singer. The music is fun and NOT annoying to parents, which is a huge plus! Have fun with the party planning!
Ziggy Marley has a great CD out for kids/family...not sure the name of it as my friend copied it for me, but its AWESOME! I think its called FAMILY TIME? Jack Johnson's Curious George Soundetrack is great. Johnny Cash and Jerry Garcia have kids albums too. I also used some "kidz club music" which I found hysterical b/c I love club music and there was a club MIX of all kids songs. I made a cd favor for my songs 2nd music themed party. Just picked my favorite sweet songs along with kids typical songs and not so typical songs. Got rave reviews.
Imagination Movers are so fun for kids and i like them too. Wiggles are fun for kids, but a little more annoying for adults.
