I need help, My husband was trying to help by doing the laudry yesterday. He didn't check the pockets and washed my son's cloths and my clothes with an ink pen. He only had one of his own shirts in the whole load which is the one that had the pen, anyways he didn't know it until after it had been through the dryer, All the clothes are ruined. I tried 4 different spot remoivers for about one and a half hours last night then rewashed, still ruined. Do any of you have a way to get black ink out of clothes, if it was a white load I would use bleach, but it is medium/darks. Help I am very frugle and do not want to buy several new oufits.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well, I would like to Thank all of you for your advise. I tried them ALL and none of them worked, I now know ink after drying does not come out.

The pen didn't break until it was in the dryer, he never knew it was in there.

By the way, I did the laundry this weekend, :-)

Try putting a little WD-40 on the stains - it took gum and dye out of my dryer and oil off my husbands clothes - I LOVE IT!!!

Check out: http://www.ehow.com/tips_13427.html

It suggests hairspray, lysol, alcohol, and milk... not together though. It also suggests Simple Green for inside the washer.

There are several wesbites that have info on stain removal - if you do a google.com search. I think that Oxyclean would work if you let the clothes soak overnight - do it twice ;)

If all else fails, you can take them to a drycleaner and ask their advice!

Good luck!

Dear Kimber-
Have you tried Hairspray?? I use the aerosol kind to get out ink. I am not sure about the pump kind. It is the same thing, so I would imagine that it would work. (Maybe try the dollar store if you don't use hairspray???) Use it in the sink rub it in and try rinsing out after you spray. It usually disappears right away. It's the cheapest ink remover I know. Good luck!!

I know hairspray works well with getting regular ink out, but if it's been washed a few times, it may have set it already. not the aerosal (sp??) kind, but the other. it's worked for me in the past.

Try hairspray. I've never tried it after being washed/dryed but who knows, maybe it will work! If not, try "googling it." Good Luck. :-)

I DONT KNOW IF IT WORKS ON CLOTHES BUT I USED STUFF CALLED SPOT SHOT ON MY CARPET WHEN MY DOGS THOUGHT IT WAS CUTE TO EAT TWO BLACK PENS ON MY NEW CARPET. IT WORKS AMAZING. THE PEN SPOTS HAD BEEN SITTING FOR 2 OR 3 DAYS BEFORE WE USED IT AND THEY DISAPPEARED IN SECONDS WITHOUT ANY SCRUBBING!!! JUST AN IDEA. I GOT IT AT TARGET IN THE CLEANING DEPARTMENT. ANYWAY I HOPE YOU FIND SOMETHING THAT WORKS!

I had the same thing happen and it even was all over the drum of the dryer. What I used was rubbing alcohol. For the clothes the best way to do it is pour the alcohol onto the spots let sit for a minute and then begin to dab with a old wash cloth or napkin . It takes quite a few times to dab it all out but it can be done. and make sure you wipe down the drum with the rubbing alcohol too just in case the ink got all over that. Of course rinse of with water and let air dry and the same with the clothes rewash them and make sure all stains are gone before drying.

I saved my favorite pair of jeans and a lot of money by doing this.

Good Luck

Try hairspray! Anything that has a solvent in it will help. Just spray a generous amount on the ink stain let it sit for a minute and wash. Try not to dry it until you know the ink is out. Has worked for me several times. Also check out the Queen of Clean's Website from AZ News Channel 3.

Hope that helps!

According to Martha Stewrat: "rub glycerin into the area; let stand 15 to 20 minutes; wash with dish-washing detergent. Or spray with inexpensive hair spray, adn flush with water."

K., i have a idea not sure it will work but i use it all the time on everything and it has been a awesome stain remover. It's Oxyclean. I buy the powder and mix it like a paste and rub it into the area that is stained and then mix some more in a bucket or bowl or some where you can soak it over night and let that area soak over night and then the next day rinse it out and wash it to see how it comes out. You need the powder stuff so you can mix it strong with hot water. good luck!! A.

have you tried bleach for colors? I use this alot on my 4 yr olds clothes and for the most part it works good. Or Oxy clean may work too.

I haven't had the ink issue, but I did have a blue crayon run-in. I washed the clothes in hot water (took out anything that I thought might bleed) first with a presoak using Oxyclean, Clorox for colors and Tide with bleach alternative. After the presoak I ran it on a heavy wash cycle. Took everything out. With the dryer I used Goo Gone. Good luck!!

Hey Kimber - bummer!! I looked in my Queen of clean book and she says to use rubbing alcohol. Sponge the mark, or dip into glass of alcohol to let it soak until removed. denatured alcohol is stronger but must test to make sure it doesn't damage fabric. Same with ACetone. White nongel toothpaste rubbed vigorously into the stain may work.

All of these I think are before washing and drying. So good luck.

I highly recommend her books!

I have used a product called goof off, I purchased it at Home Depot, it is a good product. Hope that this helps, it is such a bummer when something like this happens, every once in awhile my 7 year old will leave something in his pocket and it will get washed before I notice it and then I'm like you having to work very hard to try and get the tough stains removed! Good luck!
