Help! My 4th grade daughter needs some help with math this summer. Can anyone recommend a tutor program, such as Sylvan or Math Monkey, that you have had success with?

What can I do next?

How about a former teacher? My neighbor and friend tutors in your home or hers (143rd & Mission vicinity). PM me if you would like her name/number. Don't want to publish it online.

Math Monkey! So fun and they offer different programs. You can go in for a free look-see and they let my daughter participate during the class we were there for.

Another thing to consider would maybe be a high school student who excels in math. Perhaps you could ask at the high school or JCCC if there are any students interested. I remember when I was in school we had peer tutors available. And it would probably be much cheaper.

We are huge Kumon fans. My daughter started in 2nd grade because she was struggling and we saw results. Her computation skills are very strong which really helped when it came to long division and multiplication of 2 and 3 digit numbers.

They will evaluate for free and they will have conferences with you to discuss her progress. They chart everything out so you can see the progress.

Word of warning though... if you want your daughter to be entertained, go somewhere else!! This is serious business, she will have to do work for 20 minutes every day and go to the facility once or twice a week depending on your schedule. But I promise you that if you stick it out, she will become strong in math!

Another recommendation would be to talk to your teacher. Alot of teachers will tutor over the summer or know of teachers that will. It's usually pretty reasonabe and many will come to your home.

Final recommendation would be to post a notice at Avila University asking for a tutor. Many of these students know the latest and greatest methods of teaching and are eager to get some experience.

Good luck!!
