Hello! How fun! I would do small squares of peanut butter and jelly, chk nuggets, you can have little bowls to choose from with cheerios, goldfish, crackers, nilla wafers, cheese bites, etc You might even be able to do pizza and cut into little squares, mac and cheese. Each mom will get what she wants for her child and cut it accordingly so I would say to have a small variety for them to choose from. Have fun!

If you do cupcakes, you can do mini cupcakes, use a mini muffin tin and they can each have their own baby cupcake, it is easier to eat.

Okay, not quite sure how to weave in the food with the theme (music), but maybe some others have had some creative ideas for that. I was just trying to think about what my youngest liked to eat at a year old (she's 17 months now, so it's fresher in my mind)...

... you might do some fruit "platters" with strawberries, bananas, apples, peaches, blueberries, etc. My daughter LOVES fruit (and did at that age, too). You could do some great, colorful arrangements with fruits (and cut up, they make great "finger foods" for the little ones). She loved cheerios, Goldfish, crackers, cheese, yogurt, chicken.

Really anything can be cut up and made into "baby friendly" finger foods ... just be sure to check with your attendees for allergies (peanut butter, berries, eggs, etc.). Happy birthday to your little one! And, hope the party is great! ;)

You could do music note cookies. Also little bite size cheese balls or pigs in a blanket are really good for kids that age.

Here is a recipe that I made every birthday for my family.

1 lb. burger
1 jar pasta sauce
1 can cheddar cheese soup
1 garlic clove, minced
2 cups mozz. cheese
1 box mostaccoli noodles

brown burger with garlic and can add any italian seasoning you may have and drain. Cook noodles as directions say. In a large baking dish combine pasta sauce, cheddar cheese soup, and 1 cup mozz. cheese then add burger and noodles and mix well. Top with remaining mozz. cheese and bake at 350* for about 20 minutes or until heated through.

Serves about 16 people. Great with salad and garlic bread.
KIDS LOVE.

For our daughter's birthday in March we had a couple different kinds of sandwiches on white bread cut into little squares (egg salad, tuna, some others) without crusts. They looked cute and it was easy to make a bunch. We had fruit and cheese (which my daughter loves). We avoided nuts and anything with nuts in it since it's an allergen for so many kids. For dessert, cupcakes! The most fun was watching Lily tear into her first cupcake ever. Have fun! :)

We just grilled out (burgers and hot dogs). I like to put veggies and oil or butter (to prevent sticking)in foil on the grill, they taste so good that way, just use whatever veggies you want and season how you choose (I used rosemary). My boy loved and still loves fruit, so a nice salad, or platter would be good. For dessert carrot cake and banana muffins. If you want some really good recipes, without much sugar, I can email them.

My youngest son's birthday party is going to be on the 21st. His party is Land Before Time themed, so I am getting some of the dino shaped chicken nuggets, sugar free cookies, and then fruit and veggie trays. We will also have hot dogs and hamburgers. I am looking forward to it! You also might want to look at ediblearrangements.com They have some AWESOME things there for parties. =)

Jigglers (jell-o treats) and those long popsicles in a plastic tube, freezee pops or whatever were the biggest hits at my daughters 1 year birthday. This year we hired an AWESOME local kids band called Big Bang Boom. I highly recommend them, the kids really enjoyed them and they were affordable, professional and flexible. The adults were dancing, too. And, yes, they do rock the hokey pokey!

K.,
At this stage, the best thing is finger foods. Children love corn on the cob, pasta and fruit. I'm sure not all your guests are one year old, so make sure you do something separate for the parents.
Try making a chicken pasta primavera you can make ahead with fresh carrots, broccoli, tomato, onion and garlic with breadsticks and a fresh fruit bowl. If you plan on cake and ice cream, the easiest way is cupcakes and individual ice cream cups (the ones that come with small wooden spoons).
Feel free to contact me for a recipe. I served it at one of my parties and it was a big hit! You can serve it warm or cold. Just keep it simple and keep your carpet cleaner handy. It can get quite messy! Have fun!

Hi, one snack my kids love to have at their parties are fruit and cheese cabbobs! We cut fruit and cheeses and put them on wooden skewers and the kids love them, obviously for a 1 year old you might need to make sure its soft fruits, like melons, berries, oranges ect... but its a great treat!

We usually do hot dogs and burgers and nuggets for the main meal for kids and adults, we also have the usual veggies and dip, chips and dip, salads ect ect...

My kids are older now so I kinda forget what 1 year olds eat hahahaha, I hope this helps.

Hi. We were just invited to a child's 2nd birthday party and my neighbor who happens to be my best friend had me look up some songs. The songs that I had come up with were all of the Backyardigains. I made the cd and and listened to it. It turned out so cute instead of just playing the music at the party all of the kids got one as well. I would be happy to make you one and send it to you at no cost to you if you would like. For the menue, If you are planning on a bunch of litle ones, the minature cupcakes would be great. In reality you could do both, big ones for big kids and little ones for little kids. You could even have the kids make their own food- pizza smily faces, ants on a log(celery, peanutbutter, raisons).Their are so many different food ideas out there that what ever you could come up with would be sure to make it fun. Drinks, juice boxes, capri sun, really anything in a pouch or a box. No open containers. That is cause for a mess. Plus being summer, you have the little pesky insects to deaal with also. Don't forget the bug spray and sunscreen. Let me know about the cd. ____@____.com

When my children were little we had picnics for their birthday parties. We have a nice gazebo, playground, and picnic area at church that we would use. The invitation would say for the child to bring their favorite riding toy to the party. We took extra riding toys for the children who forgot their riding toy. We would serve picnic food--hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, fruit, baked beans, birthday cake, juice boxes, and bottled water. As they got older we switched to pizza. One year we hired a magician to entertain them. Another time my brother rented one of those big blow up jumping things for his child's party. The kids loved that. Good luck with your party. Take lots of pictures!
