Hello. I am looking for age appropriate music class or lessons for my 5 yr old daughter in the Allen, McKinney or Plano area. We have done Kindermusik and loved it but are now looking for a more advanced class that might introduce instruments or basic music theory. If anyone has had a good experience with someone or a group I would appreciate a referral.

What can I do next?

My 11 yr old son has just started guitar lessons at Matt Burk Music Studio in Allen (just off of Greenville and Stacy Rd). They offer piano, drums, guitar and bass lessons. I don't know how young they will teach, but it's worth a call to find out.

Prestonwood Baptist Church has a music school that you might check into. I know they have very talented folks teaching the classes. My sister-in-law is one of the voice teachers there. She has a Master's in Music and has performed in several opera's. Last year their opera was invited to perform in Italy.
Hope this info is helpful.

My son has been taking violin lessons for 10 months now, and loves it!! He was 4 when he started, and is 5 now. His teacher is Maestro Rand Certain. He is a wonderful teacher. He will be teaching for the city of plano this summer. This is what they have posted about him..."You can never start too young when introducing your child to a musical instrument. Our talented instructor J. Rand Certain started playing the violin at age two. He has over 19 years of experience and has performed with a number of different orchestras." I can honestly say I never expected anyone to have as much patience as he does. He also gives private lessons for a reasonable cost. Good luck in your search!!

I highly recommend the Music Together classes! This company is wonderful and all of the Dallas area teachers are amazing. They have classes all over the metroplex. Check them out online at www.musictogetherdallas.com. You can even sign up for a free trial class. The teachers teach basic music theory throughout the class, during songs, playing instruments, etc. Each week is something new and different. My child LOVES it! Hope you try it out.

The Suzuki Institute of Dallas ( www.suzukidallas.com) is an incredible organization that starts children from 4 yrs and up on violin, piano, flute, guitar, cello, etc. - mostly stringed instruments. They also have a class for birth-4yrs called Kodomo music, that all 3 of my boys currently do. My oldest (4 1/2) will be starting violin or piano this fall and I'm so excited! They have an outstanding group of teachers and amazing results with kiddos starting at this age and continuing into adulthood. They are located in Richardson - just west of 75 & Arapaho. Hope you check them out!

Check with your local church's or elementary school (public or private) music director. Or a music store.
