Need New Cookware

I am needing to get some new cookware. I have always used a non-stick (T-fal) brand, but am wondering if there is something better that I should look at. I like the ease in cleaning with the non stick, but am also aware of the chance of getting that in my food. I have a glass top stove so it needs to be a flat bottom. There are so many finishes and materials to choose from so any experiences that you can share both good and bad would be appreciated.

What can I do next?

I LOVE my Pampered Chef cookware. It will work on a ceramic stove top as well as in the oven! It is pricey, but you can get it up to 50% off and some pieces free by hosting a show (can be either a catalog or kitchen show). Some of the cookware even has a lifetime guarantee. I have been a consultant for 6 years. If I can help you out, let me know. www.pamperedchef.biz/pcapril

I love my Pampered Chef pots and pans!!! I had a party and got them for 1/2 price for my birthday about 4 years ago. They are amazing. I have never had any problems, I do take very good care of them. The best part is that if there is a problem, they are guarenteed for life. An added bonus is that they look great hanging from a pan rack in the kitchen!

We bought this Rachel Ray set a few months ago, based on the many good reviews of long time owners and so far, have not been disappointed. We did free shipping with Amazon and got within a few days of ordering. It's terrific!

I loved my Pampered Chef stuff. I never burned anything in it, even rice when I forgot to stir. They were oven safe. By far the best pans I've had. Host a big enough party and you can get them half off. They really stood behind their product, too. I miss it while I don't have my own kitchen. I never had a problem with the lining coming off until someone used something to clean one that scratched it. As soon as I have my own kitchen again I'm planning to get a new set. Have fun shopping!

I've really been liking the WearEver brand hard-anondized pieces I've added over the last couple of years. Durable, sturdy, long-lasting and non-stick on the inside and the outside. Available at a reasonable price at pretty much every discount or department store - even the dreaded Wal-Mart.

I also have a glass top stove. I use stainless steel pans form Revere. I don't know if they still make them though. Got them as a wedding gift over 14 years ago and they are still in great shape. They have the aluminum disk on the bottom. Can't say I really have a sticking problem with them either. We also use cast iron too.

Hi,

Lots of us share your concerns about non-stick. You might try annodized aluminum pots and pans. Caphalon makes a line of this cookware that is not too expensive, and you can find it at Crate and Barrel. And don't be concerned about aluminum and alzheimer's disease. That myth has been debunked. Also, I have found that I really only need a non-stick type of surface for things like eggs. If you have fairly good (not super high end!) pots and pans, and scrub them well after each use, you won't end up with things sticking and burning. Good luck.

I go classic - Farberware - lasts forever, really heavy duty. You can get it nonstick or regular and you can get a lot of it at the discount kitchen store at the outlet mall in Castle Rock! If you look at reviews online, it rates very highly!

I bought Rachel Ray as well. I have had them for over a year now and I LOVE them!! I cook all the time so it was important to have good quality pans that don't scratch off. I bought one pan to see how I liked it (a large one that didn't come in the set) after a couple of months I knew it was what I wanted and I got the set. I've not regretted it.
I went with the hard adonized after doing my research, I decided it was what I wanted.

I've done a lot of research on this subject...What I've found to be the best quality for the value is either of the Pampered Chef cookware collections. There is the Executive hard-anodized non-stick cookware line that will not peel off or get in your food. What I love about this set is that the hard-anodized coating is on both the inside and the outside; food literally wipes right off for easy cleaning. I have a glass top stove as well and it works wonderfully on there. There is also the Stainless Steel collection (I had always been just a nonstick girl, but the stainless steel is wonderful as well and makes delicious soups, chilis, fried chicken, etc. so now I have both). It has a satin finish that makes clean up a breeze and they are dishwasher safe (the Executive are not). Honestly, I usually just wash them by hand because it's so easy- most of the time, the Stainless Steel wipes clean. Both sets also are oven safe which makes them more versatile. Both sets also come with a lifetime warranty, so if you have any problems, they'll replace it for you. If you are interested, I can help you get them for a huge discount (Pampered Chef rewards hosts tremendously). Let me know and I'd love to help :-) You can also check out my website at www.pamperedchef.biz/minichefbecky

I finally made the switch to stainless steel cookware and love it! (I have a non-stick skillet that I use for eggs & pancakes.) The stainless steel is not that hard to clean and what's nice is you can start soaking it even when it's hot (if you did that with non-stick, the non-stick part of pan could flake off). At first, there was a learning curve to using stainless vs. non-stick but I won't go back!

I bought mine at Costco, for a very reasonable price. It's Item # 208782; Kirkland Signature™ 16-pc Stainless Steel
Cookware Set Copper Bonded 5-ply Base. Find it online at: http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=11257108...

I;m with the other moms... Either go for Pampered Chef pans (pricey but worth it,and it has an awesome warranty!) Their non stick stuff won't flake off. Its baked on not sprayed. Or check out the Rachel Ray stuff. I don't own any of it, but I've heard good things about it!

Try caphalon. I usually can get them at tjmax for a reduced price. My mom has a set from costco that are anonized non stick and they are great. If you get stainless steel make sure you get something that has at least an aluminum core for even heating. If you really want a nice set you could go for all-clad. I have a stainless steel aluminum core saucepan from cutco that I love and have had for eight years. Remember never put non-stick in the dishwasher and that will help keep the finish. good luck and consider investing in a good set. Good pans and good knives make a world of difference with cooking.

If you want to stay with non-stick check out green pans. I got one for my dad for his b-day because he saw them on tv and was obsessed. My parents love the pan, nothing sticks to it and the pans are PTFE and PFOA free. If you want to go with stainless steel, I have a nice set from costco. Good luck!
I forgot to add, you can find the green pans at target or macy's... I got the one for my dad at 50% off from macys :)

I have a set of stainless steel cookware by Wolfgang Puck that I love. I was able to get it at Sam's Club for around $100.00 and it has worked very well. I prefer this over the non-stick because I don't have to worry about the coating coming off and I can use any utensils with it.

Hi L.,

There are serious drawbacks to nonstick cookware--it's not just the chips that get in your food. I recommend that you go to mercola.com and do a search on nonstick cookware to learn more about its problems (and his suggestions for healthy cookware) before you make your purchase.

BTW, I have a few enamel-coated cast-iron pans that I love. I've found some at JT Maxx and Ross on great deals.

Hi L., I think it is really going to depend on how much money you really want to spend. I'm not a consultant, but Pampered Chef has some really really nice cook ware. It is pricey. It has a DuPont Autograph 2 nonstick coating inside and out for easy cleanup, suppose to not flake and it has a lifetime guarantee. So if something happens to a piece of it, they will replace it. It will also go into the oven up to 400 degrees.

If you want to look at it, the website is www.pamperedchef.com.

Hope this helps.

L.,
If you want to stick with the non-stick pans Kitchen Aid has a great line of them. Yes,they are a little expensive, but well worth the money. I have had mine for years and the coating is still like new. I switched from T-Fal because the coating didn't last. Good luck in your search.

I just got a new set for Christmas. It's Wearever brand "Cook and Strain." I absolutely LOVE the set! My only problem with them is that the set didn't come with more pieces. There were only four actual pots (Big soup pot, 10 deep skillet, 2.5qt saucepan and 1.5qt saucepan) I would prefer one in between the two smaller ones, and maybe a bigger size skillet in addition to the one I have. But you can buy those separately, it just costs more that way. Anyway. They're good, heavy duty stainless steel, pretty, functional, easy to clean, and the lids are glass so you can see through. I bought my set at Walmart for $50, but saw them at Target for $60, and another walmart store for $75. Why they were priced differently at different walmart locations I couldn't tell you. Dumb. But I LOVE the set. I use the strain part all the time, and it's great for pouring liquids from the pan/pot into a different container without spilling or funneling. They're GREAT!

I would love to see what you end of buying and how you like it. I have had our set for six years and love it. It is the Wearever brand. It is not expensive at all but works for us very well. We got it as a wedding gift. We hardly ever go out to eat and I use mine daily. There is one coated pan in the set and I have replaced that once. You can buy them as a single or as a set. Have fun!
