Hi!
I have 3 year old twins that both have a speech delay.
One of them MAY have "Verbal Apraxia", for instance, he can say words but the articulation is very poor.
The other child does a lot of "echo speech" but not a lot of functional speech. He also seems to have some Sensory Processing issues.
They can answer yes/no questions and questions about animals, colors, shapes, letters... but cannot answer questions like "what did you do in school today" or "what's your favorite color" or "what is your teacher's name" etc... so nothing abstract that's not right in front of them.
Our pedi says we need both Speech and Occupational Therapy.
Can anyone recommend a clinic in Austin and/or the name of a therapist that you like. Also, if there's somewhere or someone you would NOT recommend, that would be helpful too.

There is a wonderful speech pathologist and OT with Scott & White Clinic at the RR location~I cannot believe I cannot remember those gals names, ugh, but they are the only two at that location! Sorry I couldn't be more help...
My family had a great experience with Little Tesoros Therapy. They are located in North Austin near the intersection of 183 and Burnet Road. They offer home services as well. Hi, my 3 year old son goes to the Capitol School of Austin.. It is a preschool that focuses all on speech, all their lead teachers are speech therapists and they have an occupational therapist there.. It is VERY expensive, but worth every penny, my son started there this past September, he was barely saying a word and now he is speaking in sentences, it is the best place ever.. The monthly tuition is $1135.00.. If that isn't an option, I would call your local public elementary school and get the number to have your son tested for speech, they offer free programs, but the kids need to go through several different evaluations.. I am a Speech-Language Pathologist who works for the Austin Independent School District. There are numerous clinics around Austin who offer services. They are located in different parts of town.
As people seem to "go" with where they live, it depends on what part of town you live in. If you e-mail me your location, I can see what different clinics are close to you.
Also, children who are three can qualify for services through the public schools if they are found to meet eligibility. Each district (AISD, Eanes, Plugerville, Round Rock, Lake Travis) has a bit of a different referral process, but all follow the same timelines/federal law.

I like Children's Therapeutics of Austin. They are located near 2222 and Mopac. Their phone number is ###-###-####. They have both speech and OT in the same clinic. They have a whole approach to the child. The OT is able to incorporate language skills into her session and the speech therapist can take them out and put them on the swing for the session, etc, if they are having trouble focusing. Plus the OT and the speech therapist can collaborate on ideas for how to treat the child more effectively. My son has been going there for about a year and a half. Good luck.
I would recommend Kidtherapy in south Austin. We saw Marsha for OT. My son is 2 and she did of great job of connecting with him and getting him to come out of his comfort zone to overcome some of his issues. She was great. Our insurance covered the cost, except for copay, which made things much easier.

I'd like to give you a resource in the Austin area-the Capitol School of Austin. I work there part-time as a social worker. Google them or call ###-###-####. They serve preschoolers through 3rd grade and even if you don't enroll your kids, I'm sure they have a list of excellent speech therapists and OTs.
