Expensive + near to Scottsdale: Elements at Sanctuary or Alchemy at Copperwynd.
Not expensive + very kid friendly + further: Rustlers' Rooste at Arizona Grand (South Mountain).
I recently moved to Scottsdale to be closer to my husband's family. Recently, his parents were saying they wanted to find a place where they could watch the sunset while they had dinner. Does anyone know of a place with a good view for something like that? It doesn't have to be family-friendly or anything, this would be something they would do on their own. But they would probably prefer close to Scottsdale, or at least this side of the valley.

What fun, J.. There is a patio at The Four Seasons in Pinnacle Peak overlooking the valley, it may have sunset views. The Wrigley Mansion overlooks the valley as well, it is quite unique. Ruth Chris Steak House is known for its sunset views. Other restaurants that are delicious Basillico in Scottsdale Ranch and Parmigiana in Pinnacle Peak. Wishing you great joy here in Scottsdale.
The Four Seasons!!!!
How about the Wrigley Mansion? It has a restaurant there and an AMAZING view of the entire city. Definitely a sunset worthy location. Or they could go to a resort, although that can get pricey. What we would do, is have dinner somewhere else, and then go to a resort for dessert or drinks. The Phoenician has a bar right off their lobby with another great view of the resort grounds and city of Phx and you can order from a small menu...maybe they could have an early dinner somewhere, and then watch the sunset there while having dessert and coffee. I recommend the baked Alaska! :)
We recently had dinner at Prado at the Montelucia resort in Scottsdale. You can sit outside with a lovely view of camelback mountain. They also have a free Flamenco dance & guitar show that was really great.
