My mom recently had back surgery and we have to put her in a “Skilled Nursing Facility/Rehab” location. If anyone has any recommendations, I would greatly appreciate it. We would like a facility in the Mansfield area. We have moved her to one last night and so far we are not very happy with the service. It may just take some time and adjustment but I thought I would reach out and ask to see if any of you had any ideas. We cannot go to a regular Rehab place like HealthSouth until she gets more strength and can do at least 3 hours a day of rehab so it has to be the skilled nursing home facility.

What can I do next?

There are placement agencies for this kind of thing. They know the facilities and can take you on tour. Use them. They, work for referral fees and no charge to patients/ families.

My husband is in related field and this is the only way to fly.

I don't know of any I would recommend in Mansfield. When my dad needed a rehab we used one in Ft. Worth by the Hulen area. It was inpatient and was a great facility. Most of the ones in Mansfield that I know of are outpatient or are more of a nursing home. I'm not sure what exactly you need or are looking for.

medicare.gov has a section that compiles all the various state ageny's reviews. It even allows you to compare three nursing homes side by side. Go to medicare.gov - about half of the way down the home page on the left under the title "Find doctors, proviers, hospitals, etc" the second bullet is "Find nursing homes". CLick on that and it will take you to what you need. Enter the zip code of your target area and it will list all the nursing homes and will show the results of various agency's reviews. It's an eye-opener and really helpful. We've used it to find and confirm nursing homes for my mom and my mother-in-law.

Good luck - this is never an easy thing to have to deal with. Been there, done that and shed lots of tears over the years. But it you find the right place it is a godsend and in the long run a good thing for your loved one. Looking back I have no regrets with my mom's 18 months in a nursing home. SHe had good care and developed good friends in her last days. how nice that she didn't spend her days home & alone but was able to be with people as much as she wanted.

My step-father is in Mansfield Nursing and Rehab on Broad street. It's very old and looks pretty awful, but it's clean and the care has been very good. My step-father has MS and is totally blind, as well, so he can't see how ugly it is. We are more concerned with the care he is receiving. They doing a good job caring for him, and he gets excellent physical therapy every day. It's currently getting a face-lift, so maybe it will be better to look at soon, too. He's been there for a year and a half. Oh, he also loves the food!

*I have power of attorney for him and am responsible for his medical care. When I started looking for a place for him last year I looked at a ton of places and read a bunch of reviews. They were all terrible. I had to just talk to people and visit places. This place has terrible reviews too. They've recently changed owners, and things have improved since we've been here, but I think change in ownership is very common at all of these places, too. Good luck. I know how overwhelming and exhausting all of this is.

ETA: If she ends up at Health South eventually, it's a great place! My step-father was there for quite awhile, too.
