Hi. Have you looked into Families Together Cooperative? It's too far North for me but worth checking into. What school did you apply to? I have looked into a lot of pre schools and will send my son to the Catholic pre school we can walk to. In the end I chose convience and they have a good program. Anyway, e-mail me if you want- I'ld be happy to discuss further.

May friend was wait listed at every school they applied for except Families Together. They seem to have a really good program. They have a website that is pretty extensive.

Good luck,
A.

K.,
We've been on the wait list also for Prussing for two years for preschool (on the Northwest side). I hear this happens with the Chicago Public School system. I don't know what your religious affiliations are but you may want to try a private school and pay. If this is not an option, I heard that getting personally involved at the school (volunteering etc.) can help (not always an option though).

I sure wish you good luck.

I feel your pain because we are in the same boat with our 3 year old. If we don't get into our first choice my second choice is the McGaw YMCA Child Care center in Evanston, which is not too far from Andersonville. ( We live in Rogers Park.) Great price, great facility, and free weekly swim lessons are included. I don't know what your budget is but i've been impressed with Rogers Park Montessori as well (their new school is in West Andersonville on Balmoral and Ravenswood.) I got a bunch of other referrals from this site for great preschools in Evanston but they are all filled too... but if you haven't already, check and see what the director of the school says about the wait list. We've been told that many people apply to 3 or 4 places just to be on the safe side while still looking. So once contracts and the rest of the tuition is filled, spaces open up to those of us on the waiting list. Good luck!

Although it's not immediately in the Andersonville n'hood, we are sending our daughter next year to St Ben's (Irving Park and Damen). We also live in Andersonville and decided the school was worth the drive. They have only notified parish members thus far but, in the past, they have been able to accomodate most applicants, assuming part time. They have flexibility in which three days you choose (MWF, TWTH, etc) and, from what I understand, they have been able to enroll most of those who want three days as long as the parent is flexible on which three days (it might be MTTH or something like that).

Hope that helps.
