T.,
I believe that your leader needs them for a Thinking Day event. It's possible that the event is held in March, but Thinking Day is actually in late February (just FYI). What "normally" happens (and all areas do things a little differently) is that each troop gets to represent a different country. Last year, all the troops in our school represented Girl Guides of China. (We get together with other troops in our area) Therefore, what is China known for? Our older troops had the snack, in which they brought sticky rice and tea, etc etc etc. Each troop was to bring their own swaps (and this was only IF they wanted to trade swaps... it was NOT mandatory.... but I didn't want my girls to go without, while they watched other girls have fun swapping.) We made little foam kites, as kites originated in China, with ribbons for tails. We just put a safety pin in the corner to attach it. Relatively easy.
Okay, I've gone on long enough... basically, what I am saying is that you should find out what country you are supposed to be representing... then go from there.
Of course, you could always do basic scouting things... such as the smore in a bag idea. That's always a good one. My neice's troop were Daisies last year, and they just made foamy daisy's. I've recieved stuff from other states as well... Kansas gave out felt sunflowers painted w/fabric paint.
ONE more thing.... always include your troop number and/or your school name. Makes it more fun for the girls. Hope to have helped... feel free to get back in touch for more information.....
