hello all, i asked a question last week(i think) and didn't get much response. i am running out of ideas so i am asking again. here it goes: i have a 6 month old baby girl, she was breast fed, until i lost my milk(long story) around the same time we switched to formula, she got an ear infection that would not leave( 9 weeks and 4 different antibiotics)since on the formula(lactose-free) her tummy rumbles and she grunts and strains and cries while she is eating. she is constipated or has runny stool, she wakes spiradically at night and is generally fussy during the day, taking upto 4 naps a day. she has a great disposition and has the capacity to sleep well(she was sleeping through when breast fed and can still do it now if her tummy doesn't act up) does anyone have any ideas about who i can take her to that may be able to help her.her doc says she probably has a gluten allergy and we will just have to wait it out but htat is not good enough for me. my mommy intuition is telling me her tummy is really bothering her. if i can get her more comfortable, i think we would all be a lot happier. any help would be appreciated thanks
thanks for all the tips and tricks, we are doing better now baby Scout slept from 7:30-5:45 last night:), we switched to gentlease formula, and started on a probiotic(after some research and consultation with a few moms)i think we will be checking out our local health store for some mangosteen juice once we start juice. also we got a helpful suggestion from the doc: 1tbs of brown sugar per 2oz. warm water 2-3xs per day to help with slow bowels or constipation. if we have any more troubles, i have a ton of ideas to try thanks to all of you great moms. you gals rock!!!

You might want to check into Probiotics for her. They are the helpful bacteria you find in yogurt. My son has been taking them since he was 10 months old and he is now 3.
They help the stomach and intestines work better and should help with both the constipation and the runny stools.
The product I use is called Life Start by a company called Natren. The web address is www.natren.com, the phone number is 800-992-3323 and the gentleman I talk to is Paul and his extension is 2107. There are cheaper products on the market but they are not as clean and healthy as the Natren.
Hope this helps your little one.

I have a young nephew who had similar problems. My sister-in-law switched him to rice milk. I don't remember what his age was, though, and I imagine you need to check that out with his doctor to find out if she will be getting the neccessary nutrition she needs and if not if it's possible to supplement in order to achieve proper nutrition. Anyway, the rice milk worked wonders for him. He's 4 now and it's the only kind of milk he drinks and can successfully drink.
Am new to this site and was looking through the posts. Saw yours, hope your little one is doing better. Would like to STRONGLY SUGGEST you use Baby Bliss- gripe water. You can find it at Wild Oats. It is a god send
Good luck
Hi. It kind of sounds to me like she may have colic. My daughter had that and o boy, we were miserable!! When i nursed her, I had so much breast milk that it would just gurgle through her. Here are a couple of suggestions I have for you. 1) Use a smaller nipple, not size but the opening of the flow bc maybe she is eating way too fast. 2) disolve a starlight mint candy in warm water about 2 oz in a bottle and let her drink that. The mint reallly settles their little tummies. This is what my doc recommended. And I guess 3) I bot some homeopathic colic tablets at good day pharmacy and you just disolve it under their tongue, or you can put it in a syringe and disolve it and squeeze slowly into her mouth.
I hope my advice helps. We have been through a lot of tummy troubles.
my daughter had a lot of trouble until we started Nutramigen (Enfamil). Be warned, it is REALLY expensive. Good luck! N.
Probiotics may help. Also, we did mangosteen juice for our kids and it greatly reduced gastrointestinal distress. I can recommend two brands if you're interested. Both were recommended by a nutritionist very familiar with the juice. Many brands are not potent enough to help. GL
Sometimes trial and error is the only remedy for formula. we used "Good Start" which I think is now "Carnation" because it was easier for our kids to digest. My sister in law got a prescription formula for her lactose intolerant baby and it was covered on her insurance. I would maybe talk to a different Doctor if you aren't getting anywhere with your current one. Your baby should eat pain free. With everything out there, I hope you find a good match for your baby's belly!
We had bad tummy troubles with my son when he was little. A friend, who had experienced the same problems with her baby, recommended a pediatric chiropractor. We took my son twice, and his tummy troubles disappeared. I would never have thought of chiropractic for that sort of thing, but the more I have researched, the more I understand the connections between our organs, spine and nervous system. Our pediatric chiropractor is in the Westminster area, if you want her information.

I would try soy, then if that didn't help after two cans then I would try another for 2 cans then another for 2 cans, but you won't know right away. so you must do it for about a week each. there are many web sites for ciliacs desiease you can see what they may say about infant ciliacs.
Hi N.-I haven't read other postings so am not sure if others have already mentioned these things. I have been going through very similar issues with my 6 week old-although I did not breastfeed. Some things I have found to be helpful-check the bottles and nipples that you are using. Is she getting too much air while eating? Is the nipple to fast or too slow? I have also been using gripewater in his bottles when he is having a tummy ache which seems to help a bit. We have tried a number of formulas-Enfamil w/Lipil, Gentlease, Soy, and now back on Enfamil w/Lipil. I have heard good things about Nutramigen as well but have not tried it. Also-how is she burping? This could be causing tummy aches too if she is not burping well for you. Anyway...just some thoughts that maybe you can try if you have not already. Good luck and if you find out any other tricks-let me know too!
Try the formula in the can that you mix with Water, it is called Nutramigen. It is wonderful, my daughter had lot's of tummy issues when she was younger too. I also used Mylicon drops a lot too. The Nutramigen is predigested and I would mix a batch in the morning in pitcher then divide it out for the bottles it would use. It is more expensive but it was worth it and she actually loved the bottles straight out of the fridge. The Nutramigen was an immediate relief for my daughter.
God bless your child!! I'll suggest babies magic tea for your little one to relieve her from tummy trouble. It's safe and organic tea that contains no preservatives.
