Need Some Sure-fire Stain Busters!

I have forgotten all of the loads of laundry that come along with a newborn! I feel like I do so many loads of laundry only to find that the stains didn't come out and I have to re-wash them! I always rinse the stain immediately and then use Dreft or Shout stain remover on them. Has anyone found any tried and true methods to get rid of these stains? Thanks!

The best thing I have found for organic stains is oxyclean. I soak the garment in a bowl of water with a scoop of oxyclean, then rinse and launder. Hope it works as well for you.

When my kids were little I kept a plastic tub full of water/laundry soap (I used ALL free and clear), any baby clothes that were stained got put in the bucket until I got around to washing them. I think keeping the stain wet and also the soak in soapy water helped get the stains out.

I like Zout pre-wash. If it is a bad one, I spray with Zout then wash in our regular laundry with Tide. Then I put it in the baby laundry and wash with Dreft. If I find something after it has been through the dryer, I soak it with OxyClean. Zout always did the trick until we started solid food.

I have a 6 month old baby girl. I also soak her clothes in oxyclean. It works great. Sometimes I have to do it twice. Before I wash her clothes I spray them either with the oxyclean spray or a nursey stain remover spray I bought at walmart.

The best thing I have found for getting those "baby" stains out is the Shaklee laundry products. I have had people bring me stained things to see if I could get them out, even after several years, and most of these stains came out! Shaklee laundry products are great and are economical because they are concentrated. No fillers. You can even get a frangrance-free laundry product. These are organic products and are safe for the environment, as well.

For poop and spit up stains put them out in the sun. The sun with get them out. Sometimes it takes a couple of hours, to days depending on how bad the stain is. I always wash them with some spot treater first (and if I remember I do not dry them...but it still works if they have been dried) Then I put them out in the sun.

Works great and it is cheap. All you need is a clothes line in a sunny place.

Hope this helps

Hi -
My mom taught me this - Peroxide - I use q-tips and dab on stain but becareful on darker colors since it could lighten/bleach the dark colors -I found that bleach can make whites yellowish so i use a mix of bleach and peroxide in my wash and use cold water or wash in warm with detergent only and rinse in cold with the peroxide and a small amount of bleach. -- good luck

Someone told me to soak the stained clothes in hot water and a mixture of dishwasher detergent and color-safe bleach....then wash as usual. It really works!!

Also Soilove that someone mentioned earlier is great...I buy mine at the Dollar Store. :)

I found FOLEX to be the most awesome! It's actually a spot cleaner for carpets, but it works sooooo well on clothes! I've also heard Oxyclean is the best! I haven't tried it though, cuz my Folex works for me and haven't needed to change. You can find Folex with the carpet spot cleaners (like Resolve) at Target, Walmart, Lowes, and Home Depot.

Good Luck!

I found that OxyBaby (by OxyClean) works so much better on baby stains than the regular OxyClean. The only place I can find it is Babies R Us. You can order it online but I haven't.

My baby was almost a year old before I found MelaPower and MelaBrite, and I wished I had found them much earlier! One thing I found (especially now that he's almost 3!) that works is to spray his *new* clothes with Pre-Spot before I put them in the washer the first time....after that, stains don't have a chance to "sit" and ruin his clothes!

I especially love the fact that all of the products made are SAFER and NON-TOXIC to use!!

PS....if you haven't been told alreaday, buy some nursing pads to keep in your son's changing table and diaper bag, and when you change his diaper, put one over him to keep from getting "sprayed". The nursing pad can go in the trash with the old diaper, and there is no extra cleaning involved!

CONGRATULATIONS!!

An old Heloise "hint":

Mix equal amounts of
water
household amonia
liquid dishwashing soap

in a spray bottle and shake to mix well. Be sure to label the bottle "Prewash" and spray away! It works great, especially if you pretreat and leave on 2-3 minutes before washing. Be sure to test for colorfastness first on an inside seam.

I also use Shout and Dreft stain removers for the "small" stains, but for big ones? Oxyclean always works. Just get a pan and let them soak overnight. Or all day. Or for two days....sometimes with a newborn, you just can't get to everything at once! I used it for my whole family. They make baby oxyclean, but I can't always find it. So, I just use the versitile oxyclean and then wash in dreft like normal. Good luck!

NEver dry the clothing that still has a stain in it - the heat from the dryer will set it and then the stain is hardder to get out. I run a crisis pregnancy center and we get donations all the time and the stains in the onesies are sometimes really bad. I found "Zout" works well. WIth several treatments I was able to get set-in formula stains almost completely out. I have also used "Oxy-Clean" in a paste and used a small brush to scrub the stain.
Hope this helps.
