Need Suggestions for Where to Take 2 Year Old for Her Birthday

I am doing kid birthday parties every other year for each of my children. My daughter will be 2 in a couple of weeks and I need ideas for places we could take her for her 2nd birthday. This is her year off of having a big party at our house. We have passes to Disneyland, but because of that she has been there many times so I was trying to think of something different.

We are in the South Bay, but my family is in Orange County so anything in either LA or OC could work!

So What Happened?

Thank you all so much for the advice! I have a few things to add to my to do list with the kids : ) We decided to have family and just a few friends meet us at the local pool/park. When it came down to it, we think that is what she will enjoy the most!

Hi K.,
I had my son's 2nd birthday at the La Habra Children's Museum and all of his friends, 2 years up to about 8 years, really enjoyed themselves. If you haven't been there, they have a "green" section that teaches about saving water, etc. where they can watch what happens to the water when a toilet is flushed or when you take a shower, put gas in a pretend car, play in a kitchen, ride a miniature carousel, there's a whole section dedicated to trains, kid-sized shopping carts and "grocery store", 1/2 of an OCTD bus that they can pretend to drive, a room with a sound booth, stage and dress up clothes, a toddler room with building blocks, Thomas train table, place to play house, and much more. One of the new exhibits has miniature race cars and dress up clothes/helmets so they can pretend to drive. They have a birthday package that gives you a large room for 2 hours I think, and then the kids have the run of the museum until closing. It is open to the public while your party is going on but honestly while we were there it wasn't overly crowded at all. The price was reasonable too. Good luck!

Why don't you take her to the tide pools or the aquarium?
Keep it simple and take photos of her having fun with nature. She may actually enjoy less hubbub than Disneyland. What a nightmare in the summer!!
Kids will love the photos later, because they don't remember it anyway...good batteries and sun screen!
happy birthday. My 18 yr. old son is going camping with his dad and some other friends. cupcakes and campfire.
keep it simple...Deb

Hi K.,

Have you visited the Zimmer Children's Discovery Museum or the Skirball Cultural Center's Noah's Ark Exhibit yet? They'd both be great! If you're interested, I'd be happy to send you the contact information for either or both.

We just went to Adventure City near Knotts Berry Farm. It's a small theme park just for kids. It's $13 dollars a person. We went on a Sunday and it was not crowded at all. It was the perfect place for little ones to have fun!

Sea World is good. We just took my 4 year old for her birthday. The San Diego Zoo or Wild Animal park are also favorites. Or Legoland.

Look up Adventure City in Stanton, just down the street from Knott's Berry Farm. It is very kid oriented and very cheap. Your little one will love it, maybe not the family but your little one definitely....can even take a few playmates if she has favorites one she likes to play with...check it out...it will be good for the pocketbook!
