Hi Moms:
My 2 year old has eczema and sensitive skin. We've been doing fine with it until he's wanting to be outside all the time. I'm wondering if anybody has suggestions on sunscreens and bug repellent spray. I don't want to have to sign up for any programs or memberships to purchase, and just want something I can buy at the grocery store or pharmacy over the counter. Any suggestions along that line would be appreciated. Thanks.

What can I do next?

Like Brandi said, Avon's Bug Guard is great. There is also Avon's Original Skin So Soft (the bluish green bottle) that works great as a mosquito repellant and has been shown (by users) to actually aid Eczema. My mother has eczema and uses it often. It helps with the itch and takes a lot of the red out. HTH

My son doesn't have eczema, but he does have extremely sensitive skin. We have had luck with Bert's Bees products. Their diaper cream is the only one we can use, and their sunblock is the only sunblock that doesn't cause a rash on him. I haven't used their insect repellant, but I am confident in their products so I would certainly suggest that too. I usually buy it at Target, but I have seen it just about everywhere lately. Good luck.

ps- as we learned with my DC, his eczema was caused by an undiagnosed food allergy. Just in case you hadn't tried that route yet, it might be worth it. We eliminated the food (dairy) and it cleared right up. He also eventually grew out of the allergy. In the meantime, after bath generous slathering on of Eucerin worked wonders. It's super greasy, but was the best remedy we found.

I am pretty sure that Aveeno has a bug repellent. My child has eczema as well. We have been fortunate, however, that he hasn't been affected by sunscreen or bug repellent. You might check at Walgreens or similar type store.

Totally natural, wonderful product: UV Natural. It's an Australian sunblock that you can now get at Whole Foods, but it is cheaper to get online. It seems expensive, but you only need a little, and it stays on for a really long time. Nothing in it (even titanium dioxide) to absorb the UV and cause internal damage, and nothing that breaks down in the sun, either. It is zinc oxide that is not in nanoparticles (which is becoming known to cause cell damage), but it still doesn't coat you in white. It is a fabulous product.

I've had really good luck with Avon's sunscreen and bug repellant (all in one) on my son and he has pretty nasty eczema as well. We've used both the spray and the lotion.

My son and I both have severe eczema and you must stay away from harmful chemicals. Use a 1/4 cup Mela Magic, 1/4 Tough&Tender, 5 drops of T36-C5 and 2 capfuls of Sol-U-Mel. There are other recipes, but this is the one that is used in the rain forest. Shoot me an email if you would like information on how to get rid of eczema symptoms.

Aveeno suncare is one of the only ones that does not burn/sting my son when we put it on him. I have not found a bug spray that doesn't sting him. I have heard the avon bug products are really good, but have not tried them.

Hi M.! You have to be careful with the products you use. Alot of them have formaldahyde in them (among other things), which can cause the eczema to worsen. I would recommend using products that don't have chemicals or toxins in them...I know, hard to find. But I know quite a few moms who have done this and there are no longer any breakouts of eczema! I can help you with this, but they can't be purchased at the grocery store or drug store. You'd save money, time and they are the best safest products available!

Good luck in your search!!
