the title says it all. I'm on a tight budget, but really need these things.

I found a washer and dryer at Lowe's for a reasonable price ($300 a piece) but am wondering whether I can find them cheaper or refurbished or whatnot.

I'm also looking for a twin mattreess set and a king mattress set. Any ideas?

What can I do next?

craigslist is AWESOME. my husband and i bought a BRAND NEW still in plastic king size mattress set for 400 bucks plus tax. You can find pretty good deals on appliances too.

btw, I'm from alabama too, and I'm also a mother of 1. :)

Hi Amber,

Give craigslist.com a try. We've always had good luck there.

We have purchased several washers, dryers, mattresses, and stoves (for our own home and for our rental properties) on Craigslist and have been very satisfied. We found some really great deals and cheap prices on gently used appliances. The most recent was a almost-new front-loader washing machine. It helps that my husband buys them, though; if I did it on my own I'd probably buy a broken one or something, but he seems to know what to look for. So I'd check Craigslist daily. Also you can put a "Wanted" ad (it's free) on Craigslist that you are looking for those items. You probably don't want a mattress from Craigslist unless it's new and in the package, but I always see great deals at furniture stores in the scratch and dent room in the back, and there are always a lot of mattresses. You might try that! Good luck. Or the scratch and dent room at applicance stores like Hahn for a washer and dryer.

As far as Matresses go, if you are in the Tulsa area, go to the Salvation Army on 21st and Sheridan. Any matresses they received are cleaned and rewrapped into plastic. There are no stains and you can get them for really cheap. Also, look in the classifieds for used washers and dryers. Alot of times you can get a set for about $150-$200. Good luck!!

Check out the newspaper for used appliances or independent dealers (not the big chains) sometimes have used sets that they have refurbished at reasonable prices. Try Morton TV and Appliances, they usually have some washers and dryers call ###-###-#### to find out what they have. I think Sam's has the best mattress prices. Good Luck and welcome to Oklahoma!

I'm needing to sell my current washer and dryer. The set I have is GE and I purchased them 3 years ago. The washer is in excellent condition and the dryer works great too but it needs a new timer. From what I've heard it's not that expensive to repair. The only reason I'm getting rid of them is because I'm finally getting the long promised front loaders I so desperately want. I'm looking to sell them for $200. If you're interested you can e-mail me at ____@____.com. I would love to be able to get rid of them this week as the new set is supposed to be delivered on Saturday.

You may check with the HOW foundation thrift store in Broken Arrow. They have rebuilt dryers and washers and other large appliances for very reasonable prices. I think they come with a 30 day guarantee also.
Hope this helps.

If you don't mind buying used, check with Craigslist. You can usually find some good deals there. If it's a mattress, though, make sure they keep their house clean. I saw a horror story on TV about bedbugs infested in a used mattress someone bought at a yard sale! I'd also look on Amazon.com. I looked at stores all over Tulsa for a crib mattress and ended up buying it new on Amazon, no tax, no shipping, and about 10% less than the before taxes price I was finding in the stores. Good luck.
