My 4 year old has been complaining about her stomach hurting for about a week or so now, she doesnt have fever but sometimes has diarrhea. Also she is constintly asking to eat, she gets full and wants to eat about 30 min. after words. I can't seem to figure out whats wrong. She has a check-up coming up, and I'm going to mention the problem. For the mean time any advice?

What can I do next?

I would get her on to see the doctor sooner rather than later. Liquid feces will bypass an impaction, leaving the solids to build up...

This may very well be a virus. Both my kids have had the same thing for the past week to ten days (I have a 3 year old and a kindergartner, so they're probably all running in the same circles in the Bay Area). They complain of a stomach ache, want to eat, then don't want to eat, and then swear they're starving a very short time later. Because both my kids are experiencing it, I'm guessing it's a weird--relatively mild but uncomfortable--flu that is going around the pre-school set. Of course, if it keeps up more than another week or so, I would definitely talk to your doctor.

My daughter had the ongoing stomach ache thing with no other symptoms. At her check up, I mentioned it and they did an Xray and turns out she had poop backed up in her colon. Some poop was still getting thru, but not all of it - which would also cause diarrhea sometimes. Now she is on a prescription generic "Miralax" stuff and it seems to be helping. I also make sure she has yogurt everyday for colon health. Over the previous year, she had 6 ear infections and was on antibiotics alot which I know can mess with the "good" bacteria in your colon. I think this is why she is having problems. So hopefully with the miralax stuff once a day for 3 months, plus the eating of good yogurt cultures, she should be back to normal happy functioning soon!!! Make sure has plenty of water. If it is a sharp pain on the lower right side it could also be appendictis which is very serious!

Keep a close eye on it. Keep a diary of what she is eating and try to pin point if the diarrhea comes on when she eats something in particular. This might also help the dr when you go as well.
My 7 year old (from about 4 to 5 1/2, and still occassionally) used to say her stomach hurt her when she didnt want to finish her food. So each situation is different. You know your daughter better than anyone so If she changes mood or acts differently than she normally does then its probably cause for concern. If it seems to get worse, or she gets more winey about the problem i would call the Dr and try to get her in sooner than later.
Hopefully this helps! Good Luck. :)

4 year olds can have 1/2 cap full of Miralax (or the generic) up to 2x a day. My pediatrician often prx'd this for my 5yo when she'd have poop issues from 2-5years old.

Always helps.

Could be that she is backed up but some things are getting through.

She may need to increase her fiber intake- which might be why she's not getting full for very long as well. (whole grains, brown rice, green vegetables)

and also could be too much milk? id reduce her milk to one glass a day and INCREASE water or gatorade (gatorade or G2 is great to mix the miralax in).

this ALWAYS helps with my girls have this type of problem.

She taken a good poop lately?

I would take her in. If my kiddo tells me something hurts for more than a day or two, I take her in.

Recently my daughter had the same thing (diarhea and constant eating for a week or so) and then it was followed by throwing up every other day for the second week. She never had a fever and her energy was normal expect for the first day she threw up. It turned out to be a virus and she is better now. Not sure if you have the same thing but it does sound similar.
Good Luck

Sounds like maybe she's lactose intolerant, or intolerant of something she's eating. Gluten, Dairy, Eggs... something is causing her body to reject what she's eating. Try Dairy first. Only buy lactose free milk, goats milk cheeses, yogurts and soy yogurts for 2 weeks and see if that solves the issue. If after consistency of 2 WEEKS... then move on to gluten, etc.

Hi S.,
Does your little one have regular bowel movements everyday? She may need more enzymes and lactoferrin in her body to help balance her system. My grand baby had similar symptoms. I put her on some whole food supplements and she feels great now. If you want more info let me know and I will share. I am a life style coach and we have get togethers once a week in my salon and talk about health solutions.

Have a great weekend.

Maybe she is hungry because of a growth spurt coming on? Before growth spurts happen my kids would be ravenous. A week or so later they would not be hungry at all and just want to sleep all day and night. Then they wake up and are an inch taller! At age 10 the growth spurts also caused pains in the shins of both my girls. The other possibility is that molars are beginning to come in, which causes more drool to go down their throat which can upset the stomach a bit. Finally, she could just have a stomach bug. Both my girls stayed home from school for 3 days without a fever, just lethargy and slightly loose stool, not real diarrhea when you just HAVE to go. The pediatrician always asks us how they seem - are they acting "like themselves", or being whiny or sleepy, etc. Even if they have a fever but are acting OK she is less worried than if they don't have a fever but act out of sorts. Good luck.

That happened to my daughter when she was about 7. It turned out she had drank water from a facet in a park and it was contaminated with parasites which then took up residence in her intestinal track. Even though we thought the water was safe, it was not...so check to see if she has eaten any unwashed food or drank water from places that could harbor parasites.
