Needing Advice for Food Allergies

We just found out our 4 year old daughter is allergic to milk, wheat, yeast, and soy.
I'm trying to figure out how to make changes for our family. Those who have or are dealing
with similar situations can you give me some pointers? Do I change everything for the whole
family so her siblings aren't having things she can't right in front of her? Where do I go to find
good recipes that are kid friendly and somewhat normal? I just don't know where to start. I'd
love to hear what others have done with their families. I also have a 7 year old and a two year
old.

What can I do next?

I agree with Jennifer C. I have tried the NAET treatments for my animals with severe allergies and know it has helped them a great deal. I have a friend that she and her son both went through treatment and feel much better. I think the idea of it sounds crazy and my husband wasn't on board with it but then he saw that it worked and is on board now. Basically NAET treatments are a form of acupressure that should allow her to possibly one day tolerate these allergens a little better. I would look up the site to get more information. I know there is at least one doctor in the KC area that practices these treatments. I also have a friend who has found similar results through acupuncture and herbs. I feel like that was a much more expensive route though. Good luck on this new journey, there are so many things available now to make it easier.

Instead of milk you can use rice or coconut milk. For the wheat google gluten free and you will find a lot of information. You can also google gluten free, yeast free. I have noticed there are many people out there who have an allergy to both. Check out the website Befreeforme.com. Betty Crocker has some great gluten/wheat free cake mixes. Many resturants and food stores have allergen information on there websites. Whenever I look up resturants or store information I print it out and save it in a notebook for next time. Red Bob Mills is a great company to find GF/wheat free flour and mixes.
I wouldn't change everyones diet unless she has severe allergies that could be life threatening. Just make sure you have special treats and foods in the house for her.

I dont have suggestions for recipes....I do know it's hard. Please consider looking up www.naet.com. This may or may not work for you, but most people can return to eating their normal diet after being treated. There's no needles involved. It's homeopathic.

Explain in simple terms what a food allergy is.
So she understands. Because ultimately as well, your child will need to learn herself, as she gets older... what she can/cannot eat... so she herself can say "no" to foods that is offered to her....

ALSO explain to the other kids... so they understand and can empathize with your 4 year old. Make it a "family" project.... so they all can understand and 'help.' Not making it exclusionary....

Here are some links for you:

ALSO... make sure your Pediatrician refers you/your child, to a Nutritionist... so you can learn about it... and for any recipes and cooking tips... and foods you can use etc. This is important. Go and see a Nutritionist...

Also make sure, if your child is going to Preschool, to notify the school of her allergies...

all the best,
Susan

We just recently took our 7 year old off wheat and gluten. She is totally on board. She feels so much better without it. We feed the rest of the family a normal meal because it is too expensive to feed everyone this way. I have bought some wheat/gluten free crackers, bread, etc so that she has something to eat while we figure out a routine. So much is available now! Also, she accepts the change without a complaint. The kids all had pizza one night and she couldn't have it. She was content with her less exciting dinner. She knows that it will cause problems if she eats it. I imagine yours will respond similarly. BTW I have since purchased a gf pizza for her just in case the need arises.
