"A Dr say she may be disorganized in her mind.".
Does that mean she might have a learning disability?
Get her evaluated and then you and the school work out a learning plan.
my 5 yr old girl is having problems learning her abc's and/or remembering them. need ideas of a fun or easy way for her to learn. have had a Dr say she may be disorganized in her mind. and ideas will be helpful!!! THANK YOU!!
Thank you moms! Everybody had wonderful ideas and I have used some. And plan on using more of then cuz she has a younger brother wanting to learn. I did put letters up in their room and also let her help me in the kitchen. And when we go to the store I will tell them how many items I need and letter her count them out. Her teacher has seen a big improvement in her....
"A Dr say she may be disorganized in her mind.".
Does that mean she might have a learning disability?
Get her evaluated and then you and the school work out a learning plan.
Get a baking sheet and fill it with shaving cream and practice writing the letters in it, it can also be done with a little wet sand.
Place pictures of the letters being learned around the house and point them out occasionally.
Cut pictures out of a magazine that have the beginning letter sound.
Look online for printable worksheets.
Lastly, don't panic, for some kids it takes a little longer, it will click and when it does it's a wonderful thing. Make it fun, then more fun it is, the more receptive she will be.
If she likes computers jump start has a great section of preschool learning that is fun for them. Also decorate her room with letters and numbers. (you can get those foam letters and let her put them up. Saying the letters as you go. Take her to the beach and right her name in the sand. Read to her every night. Dr. Sues books are great. My daughter loved one fish two fish.
Everyone has their own way of learning. When you try to "teach" a child, the results actually take much longer then if you just allow a child to learn on her own through playing, everyday life, and repetition.
There are tons of "toys" available... puzzles, magnetic letters, computer games that you can use.
Read, read, read and read some more. While you are reading pick a letter. If her name is Ray, start with "R". Look for the letter "r" in the book.
Throughout the day talk about the letter "R". Find objects that start with the letter "R", make a game out of it.
Also, most children know their letters and all the sounds that they make by age 5. Taking into consideration the Dr. has noted "she may disorganized....", could be the indication of a minor learning disability. You should speak with her teacher to see if she's noticed anything.
I would work with the school they should be able to help.
My son gets a few letters a day. and they are on key rings and we flash them daily. He also has his sight words that way and numbers and shapes.
You can play letter hop scotch... and have her jump to the A or the B etc..
Our school has wood peices that the kids use
Use different forms, paper, shaving cream, dry erase board, flash cards etc..
I am not understanding what the Dr means by disorganized. But I would have school evaluate her, they should have the means to help her. Good luck. If is is the inability to focus, there are lots of techniques that the school should be able to assist you with.
Good luck
My 6 year old niece had the same problem. I had custody of her for a while when my sister was sorting through some issues. The school was putting to much pressure on her to learn them and it really stressed her out. I tried fun games with her and even that was not helping. Then one night I had put her to bed and over the monitor I heard her singing them perfectly! It just clicked with her one day so maybe the same thing will happen with your daughter. Good Luck
Make sure learning is stress free!! Many children are "blocked" due to stress. No quizzing, no worksheets. Try to figure out if she is visual, or kinesthetic or learns best thru music, or motion. Watch Wordworld on TV and play the games on line. Watch Leap frog Letter videos. Try teaching her a little sign language to see if she is more kinesthetic. Research shows that physical movement after learning helps the brain remember new information, so make sure she is active in between learning activities. Dont forget the importance of getting enough sleep to move information from short term to long term memory.
The doctor said that your daughter is "disorganized in her mind"? Hmm.... Did the good doctor have any suggestions for organizing/"decluttering" her mind?
Maybe she is at a stage where she is excited and overwhelmed by learning many new things...this could be just a phase she will grow out of!
It really helped my kids to learn their ABCs but putting up colorful posters with the ABCs in their room. I got them at a local school supply store. We'd go over them at night before bed. Mine also like the ABC puzzles. That helps with remembering the order and placement. The one we had little pictures on the puzzles also with animals beginning with that letter.
Hope this helps.
READ to her, a lot.
www.starfall.com is the hands down best early reading program I've come across (free!) as it
- teaches to all learning styles
- self propelled (kid want to move from b to x... No problem. Do this type instead of that type, like song vs activity, no problem). AS LONG AS its the kid navigating the site, not the parent after a brief HOw To.
- no negative consequences (the voice is JUST as EXCITED on the 88th repetition as the first, doesn't suggest doing c instead of b, etc.)
- is just utterly awesome :) :) :)
HOWEVER
The best whatever in the world won't help if there's a learning disability or other issue at play.
Meaning
- screen for all learning/neuro disorders, although probably especially for dyslexia ... As well as what it sounds like you already did in ruling out physical causes (taking her to the doc for eye/ear/etc.)
Remove the stress and make it fun. Puzzles, starfall.com.There are tons of fun aps for phones, including starfall.
