Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions for a couple of group games? There will be about 20-25 people and it is a surprise party. I've looked on the internet some and haven't really found any good ones.

Thanks!
M.

We love playing Rock Band or Guitar Hero!! They have this on the playstation & Wii platforms. and probably xbox360. Rock Band is better because 3 people can play at the same time together -- if one fails the song -- other band members can help save the band during the song. there's a guitarist, a drummer and a singer. Rock Band comes with a microphone, a drum machine and a guitar. You might ask friends and some may let you borrow their system/game for the party. Or i'm sure you can rent it from Blockbuster.

At parties, we've had teams of 3 people... and there's a score calculated at the end of each song.... someone kept track of the scores/teams and there was a winner's round of the top 3 scoring bands and then a winner emerged from that (3 winners in the top scoring band).... or you can reward the one band member in that winning band that had the highest score. (it can also calculated which band member hit the most notes correctly).

It's so much fun to hear your friends sing and act like Rock stars! We had a great time at that party!

Last year we went to a friend's 40th, and it was the most fun we've had in a long long time. It was a 70s disco since that was her high school times, and everyone was supposed to dress up. We had a costume contest where every couple walked down the make shift stage and played the part of whatever they dressed like while everyone who didn't want to participate in the competition voted by applause. We won a gift certificate to Starbucks. We also did a soul train, and we just had so much fun. Party City has a lot of disco party deco.

If it's a surprise (we did this for another friend who had an 80s themed party), you could go ahead and purchase the birthday person an outfit to wear and give it to them once they're at the party.

Divide into groups and have a scavenger picture hunt. Make sure enough people bring a digital camera and ask questions that are riddles and the answer they have to take a picture of their group standing next to it.... get the liscence plate of the birthday girl's car, or some riddle about fire and ice (cake and icecream), we played this at a company function and set up "staged" answers around the perimeter. Make sure you have extra batteries or digital cameras that are powered up. They make great pictures for the memory book later.

Or you can have t-shirts made if you have enough time with the "big 4-0" on it and give them away for correct answers to questions submitted my attendees of the party. That way you can "conveniently" control who wins a t-shirt by asking questions that only that person can answer. My daughter did this at her wedding ... hysterical. The grandparents that attended the reception got a kick out of it and won a shirt. A few of the young guest were asked specifically some of the easy questions.

have fun!
It you need help documenting later, let me know, I love to scrapbook.

Moods is a fun game, but hard to find. Making up your own questions for the newlywed game would be fun, even for the spectators. We ALWAYS love charades. The idea of renting a place is fun too. We rented out laser tag and had a private party there. My 77 year old mom looked wild her in laser pack and her white hair was awesome under the lights!

My sister in law made up a trivia game with questions from the first 40 decades of my life, dividing them from 1967-77, 77-87, etc. It was SO much fun and really engaged everyone at the party from my parents and in-laws to the kids when the questions were from the 90's to current. The music/entertainment questions from the 80's were the biggest hit, she even had burned a disc with some "name that tune" questions. A lot of fun for everyone!

There are some fun group games like Taboo, pictionary, things like that. One of my favorites is Apples to Apples - you have 7 cards that have nouns on it (I think it's just nouns) and someone picks a different card with an adjective or adverb on it and then you have to play the card out of your pile that best fits the adj. card picked. Then the person who draws the adj. card gets to judge which card they think is best.

I'm not sure how well those games would work or not with 20-25 people, but they are games geared more toward larger groups than just a couple of people.

Another game that's fun is "I've Never..." where someone says something they've never done or had... and then whoever has done/had that stands up. I can't remember for sure what happens after that - if the people who stand up get something out of the middle like an M&M or have to put something in the middle or what exactly happens, but you could always improvise. It's a fun way to get to know people you don't know really well, or get to know some unique things about people you do know. You can also put down something about yourself no one else knows on a paper that you fold up and collect, then re-destribute them and take turns reading them. Then everyone has to guess who the thing goes with.

Good luck.

Something to stimulate conversation- dont know what its called but you put a famous person on paper on each person back and people have to ask questions about who the person is on their back- but only yes no questions and they cant speak with the person they came with - first person to guess wins something.
Left Right Center- you can do it with dolalrs bills, items- anything- big circle- roll the dice- everyone starts with 3 items - dice determines where it goes person to the left, right or pile in the center,- last person holding an item wins the center pile.

THere is a fun game we did and my hubby found it online. It is called Werewolves and requires nothing to play. It is basically telling the same story over and over, but the roles change and people get killed off and the object is to figure out who the werewolves are. People who are good liars will do the best. It takes a while to explain, but is really fun. When we played we had 10 people and all agreed it would have been more fun with more people, but all of us enjoyed it. If you can't find directions online, let me know and I will explain the rules and directions.

I am not in your area, but we get a few calls for parties like this to do bounce houses and/or slides to make the birthday boy/girl feel like a "kid" again.

Just a thought.

Another idea is to break up into teams and ask each other trivia questions from a boxed game for points. Fact or Crap (the game) has some really fun cards.

You can also pass out a list of questions about the birthday boy/girl and award points for each right answer or the most creative GUESS. (Examples: Where born, How many siblings, Favorite color, etc.) You have to REALLY know the person to get points.

Have fun with it. :o)

Blessings,
