We recently subscribed to Netflix- just the basic one with one disk out at a time and we can download instant movies with our Wii and on-line. I noticed in one of the other posts one of the mothers had said that her husband was able to hook their laptop/computer to the TV and they could watch the instant movies on the TV. Does anyone know how to do this? We have a newer (bought last year) flat screen TV in the bedroom and it has all sorts of connection ports on the side, including a USB. Thanks for all the help in advance!

So What Happened?

At first the guy at Wal-mart sold me a VGA cable because I wasn't sure if the computer had an HDMI port (there was a hidden part on the side where more connections were) so I took that cable back and bought the HDMI cable and it works great! We do have to change the sound settings on the laptop in order to hear the sound through the TV but overall we are very happy with it. Thanks again!

If you go to www.playon.com there is software you can download on your computer. The software works with your computer and gaming system (such as Wii, XBox 360 and PS3) so you can watch NetFlix, Hulu, CBS, YouTube and more on you television - no cables required. They offer a free 2 week trial period and is only $39.99 the first year if you choose to keep it, with every year after costing $19.99. A friend told me about this and I thought it looked interesting. I haven't tried it yet, but thought I'd throw it out there as another option.

If my husband and I want to catch up on a show that we haven't DVRed, that's not on NetFlix yet, but is on Hulu.com, we use an HDMI cable and link his laptop with our flatscreen Panasonic TV through the HDMI port. It's pretty simple and a great way to watch movies on a larger screen than his laptop monitor. I think we bought the HDMI cable when we bought the TV through HH Gregg. However, I'm sure you can find them everywhere, now.

I believe all you need to do is get a HDMI cable to connect your laptop to the TV. I assume your laptop has a wireless internet connection.

There are many options. Go to netflix.com and then click on the 'watch on tv' (or something like that) tab. It goes through all the options - through the wii, xbox360, ps3, Tivo, a list of ready TVs, etc. If you haven't got any of that, you can buy a Roku box (less than $100) from Netflix for a 1 time charge. Then with all of these, you can browse the instant queue, find movies/tv shows to add to your queue, watch shows, remove them from your instant queue, etc with your TV remote (or Roku remote).

If both your laptop and TV have an HDMI port, all you need is an HDMI cable. Most newer TVs have a computer port. You can use this, but as another mom stated you'll get picture only, not sound, as you're essentially using the TV as a monitor. They sell all the cables you'd need at WalMart.

We do this and have for years. We have an s-video cable from the tv to the laptop. You also need an audio cord for sound, unless you want the sound to come out of your computer. When you get it all hooked up don't forget to go to the properties on your desktop and click on settings, then advanced and then go to the monitor tab to choose showing it on the laptop and the television. Here's a simple youtube video I sent to my sister a while back so she could do it herself, the lady goes on a bit at the end, but she explains things pretty simply. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I_oum5EPrVg

My hubby won a Wii at work and so we got Netflix for this purpose. Wow, we love it!! It works great and there are tons of kids shows that you can watch instantly. Now my son has programming he enjoys and we have no late fees. We used it in our bedroom with no issue at all and we actually have old school tvs, so I think a new tv will work even better. Enjoy!
