Never Coming Out!

I am due this Thursday, making me 39 weeks and 5 days pregnant. I'm only 1.5 cm dilated, lost my mucus plug 2 weeks ago, get BH contractions from hell, dropped about a month ago, the pelvic pressure is almost unbearable, and I don't think I can go on pregnant anymore. Is anyone else in the same boat? My doctor is older and is very old-fashioned about inducing. My son is supposedly at around 8.5 pounds, and my hubby and I've tried everything to get him out. We've tried walking, nipple stimulation, sex, and still nothing. Ahhh!!! I am going crazy here. Will he be out anytime soon???

Hi A.. This might be an old wives tale, but I was told to take a bath with lavendar oil. I have also heard eating Chinese food helps. Don't know if it was coincidence but the lavendar worked for me!

Hey there...

I was in that position 9 yrs ago...with my son Nicholas. I even drank an entire bottle of caster oil (mixed with strong lemonade isn't too bad) what I finally believed worked was greasy MCDONALDS....I got such a stomach ache, the dr believed that thats what started the contractions. I was 13 days overdue with Nicholas and 15 days over due with my youngest son, who was induced, which if you dont have to..dont...being my third child...that birthwas the worst.

Think of something that usually gives you an upset stomach that makes you "run" to the bathroom ...and give it a try. I know it sounds crazy..but its basically the same effect of caster oil...

Good luck..Lemme know how it goes!!!!

A Natural and very effective way of bringin on contractions is to eat lots of parsley... try it.. with a salad... maybe even eat it with lemons.. I like it that way.

I am from South America, Ecuador.. but I know that this herb is very powerful and is widely used ... It is also an ancient way of bringing on childbirth.

It basically is an effective "diuretic".. it helps promote more blood in our system..

It helps bring on your contractions, while helping with dilation ...

Here are some articles to read on it's properties, and perhaps ask your doctor if it would be ok to try it.. it's only a herb, but you or your baby may nave issues that only your doctor knows and well, this is a diuretic herb...

Babies come on their own schedules, in their own ways. As much as you can plan and be prepared for a certain "birth expoerience", you are ultimately out of control. I remember how uncomfortable it is -- my first was 2 weeks past the due date in the middle of New Orleans summer! Birth is an uncomfortable, messy, and downright painful experience. It ain't pretty or pleasant. But after he comes out, your brain will downplay how miserable you are now. If our brains didn't downpay it, we'd all have only children!

God luck and God bless!

Hang in there! I went through the same thing. There is really nothing that I can say to make it better. My daughter is 10 months old now and I promise you that he will come out- those last days can be torture though. I also last my moucus plug and the whole gammett. It Sucks really bad and when I read your plee for help I felt for you. Do you have any friends from a birthing class or anything? Thats what got me through. I know that it's not what you want to hear, but don't induce- look at the responsesyou've gotten so far- they end in c-section a lot, and don't pay attention to all of those "signs". It doesn't always mean anything. I hope that you won't read this message because you're in labor, but if not, hang in there, keep busy- movies, I watched a lot of them right before she came. You'll make it! They're worth it in the end.

Taking 2 Evening Primrose Oil Caplets (available at Wal-Mart in the vitamin section) and a bottle of castor oil in oj (use a straw) worked for me. I was 1/2 cm dialated and closed on Monday. Took it Tuesday afternoon. Went to the hospital Tues. night with contractions. I was 4 cm. dialated, but only 50% effaced - sent me home. I took 2 more evening primrose oil caplets the next morning and went back to the hospital - I was a full 4 cm. so they admitted me. I had my 2nd at 5:12 that evening. No guarantees that it will work - but definitely something I would try again. I was determined to have my 2nd a week early - my first was 9 lbs. 12 oz and my doc said he wouldn't induced until it was medically necessary - meaning I would probably pass my due date. My second was a healthy boy weighing another whopping 9 lbs. but only 4 oz....

Good luck! I've also read you can put the castor oil in root beer. Either way - be sure to use a straw. I took it on a fairly empty stomach - then I didn't have much of the bad effects. From what I read - it makes the contractions start about 3 hours later. I took the primrose oil caplets and then downed the oj/castor oil. It was gross. Then went to bed for a few hours. Woke up having lots of contractions. The hospital sent me home because I didn't progress there. Came home and had lots of contractions and headed back a few hours later where they admitted me.

Good Luck!

A.,
I know exactly what you are going through. I ate the spicy food, had sex...did everything but the nipple stimulation...and he was still almost 2 weeks late. My doctor went on vacation the week I really needed to have him! So I was scheduled for an induction on Monday...went to the other dr on Thursday...she told me I was 0% effaced and NOT dilated...I was soooo upset. But at 3:30 that morning, we had to go to the ER and he was born Friday at 3:14pm! So don't give up...they just come when they want to...unfortunately you cannot change that! :(

Some advice though...DO NOT drink casteroil...my doctor said it could harm the baby. Oh and in my birthing class they said that nipple stimulation will make your contractions MUCH harder...even BH contractions...so that might be why yours have been so bad. Just drink plenty of water and eat all the time b/c once you get in there, you'll only get ice chips until he/she is born!! GOOD LUCK!!!

Heh Heh Heh boy oh boy can I relate. I am going in for an induction this coming Sunday night. I can't wait for this lil sucker to pop out. lol. She's gonna be stubborn just like momma I can tell ya that much. The only advice I can really offer, seeing as how this will be my first, so no experience, is to walk as much as you can handle. I've been walking lots around the mall, and that got me to 3cm withen a short time. But my body for some reason isn't wanting to press any further, so we decided to induce. Best wishes and luck with lil Conner, and when he does come out, boy will you be thrilled and know it was all worth while :) . If you ever need someone to chat with, maybe since we are both new moms, we can do a support system lol, IM me on yahoo under ohrocky_20 or email me at ____@____.com

Oh I feel your pain. This sounds very familiar. I tried it all too including a special salad at a certain restaurant in Chicago where I lived that had reportedly made women go into labor. Didn't work. My doctors waited until I was 11 days overdue before they induced. It was awful. Then they made me lay there for almost 24 hours before they did a c-section (failure to progress), which honestly is not that bad, but by then I had a big infection from being induced for such a long time. I hope you have a better doctor than I had!

Your baby will come when its his time to come out!!! My brother's wife was over a month overdue (and yes, her calculations were correct). Their baby came out just fine; didn't even weigh over 8 lbs! In fact, they had her at home... and yes, my sister-in-law was tired of being pregnant... but, just think of the baby... and your body... They both 'know' what to do.

In my case, I went to my due date for my first one... and 39 wks exactly for my next 2 babies. For my last one, I had went to my prenatal visit and was only 1½ cm dilated. This doctor, who had been in practice for over 20 yrs, thought I'd go at least another week. I had my baby early that next morning!!! Without inducing, at home.

Believe me, you won't be pregnant forever!!! Just enjoy this time by yourself! I know you're anxious to meet your little one, but he'll come when its time!

Good luck!

Hopefully by now you have had your baby boy. Congrats!! I had the same type of experience with my son; he didn't want to come and doctor didn't want to induce. He came on his own at almost 41 weeks. I had my baby boy on Nov. 15th; he will be 2 months on Monday. He is a pure joy but has changed my life drastically. It's very hard in the beginning and no one or no book can prepare you. Take it a day at a time and don't worry everything works out. It's getting a little better for me. Your relationship with your husband may be challenged, but not to worry that gets better as you all become more adjusted to becoming parents. If you need someone to talk to email me at ____@____.com. I know it helps to talk to other moms. Good luck and Congrat on the new bundle.

Whatever you do DO NOT DRINK CASTOR OIL! that is the nastiest stuff Ive ever choked down in my entire life. Okay, if there is nothing wrong with your child, do not stress out. Baby will come when hes ready. I know thats probably not what you want to hear but its what my mother told me and what her mother told her, and so on and so forth. If it gets too late, however, and your doctor won't induce, get someone else. (my next child will be with a midwife :D after my first pregnancy with a doctor, I won't be wasting my time with those morons again) good luck

Hi A., you poor thing! My baby was overdue about a week and I was scheduled for an induction but I really wanted him to come out naturally. I tried everything from eating pineapples(I heard that was suppose to help), clary sage essential oil on pressure points, sex, and I bought a bouncing ball that I bounced on for about an hour. I don't know if it was the combination of everything or it was just time but I swear that bouncing ball did it cuz I went into labor that night. Hope that helps^^

I don't know your size and what not, but I have an 8 month old and went through the same situation. I am 5'3 and very petite. I had been having BH for about 3 weeks, lost my plug, dilated to 1.0 cm, had been droppend for a little over a month at the end, and we also tried everything. Finally, I went in and my doctor induced me four days before my due date. SHe put me on the drip over night to see if it would happen natural and it didn't. So the next morning, we decided on a c-section, becuase of my small frame, my body WAS NOT going to go into labor. (WHich was nice to not have to go through all the pain :)) Just one person's experience though. Good luck with your pregnancy...kids are such a privelege and joy to have!

You know, due dates are not always correct. I know you dont want to hear that, and I am sorry because I couldnt wait to meet my son either, but inducing is not always the answer, and the longer Connor is in your tummy, the heathier he wil be. Good luck, try to rest now. A good book will help, and enjoy the sex before your 6 week dry spell.

I was the same way. My doctor let me go 2 weeks over due (that is the limit). But don't rush into inducing if you can help it. They induced me, and I was in labor for 23 hours and had only dilated to 4 cm. They ended up taking him C-section because he was stressing trying to come out. it wasn't bad, but I just would have liked the experience of giving birth to him the way I was intended to. Chin up....he'll come when he is ready.

I hear ya. :) It's been 5 years since I had my youngest child, but I still remember the agony of those last days. Some will say this is baloney, but I was willing to try anything with my two kids (both were late). So I tried reflexology. Most massage therapists will be able to perform this. Mine required a note from my doctor before we began. Basically, they work on a spot that is close to your ankle. It was absolutely not relaxing - in fact, it was pretty painful, and I got to practice my Lamaze breathing through it. The craziest thing was, it gave me real contractions. They stopped once the "massage" was over, but both times, I went into labor within 24 hrs. My massage therapist said that she was 5 & 1 before working on me. It didn't work with one client, but I was the 6th (and 7th) woman she took credit for starting labor. It isn't free like the other methods (I remember I was even doing jumping jacks at one point), but it was totally worth it for me. :) And please keep us updated!

Good luck and God bless!

Bless your heart darlin'. I went a week over my due date and thought i was gong to loose it. At the end I was seriously considering a trampoline to see if I could shake the little fella out. I eventually tried the dreaded castor oil, my intestines have never been so clean. It was truly horrible, truly. I'm getting the shimmies just thinking about it. I tried to take it like a shot, but that foul stuff just oozed its waay down the side of the glass making sure that I tasted every last disgusting drop. shudder. I did go into labor later that night, and on the up side I didn't have a bowel movement untill a week after our little man was born. But oh lord, i will never touch that nasty stuff again. I know you are beyond tired of hearing this, but the more you stress out about it the worse it will be for you. Just enjoy those last few days with your husband alone. Rent a good movie and relax (I wouldn't actually go to a movie theatre because there is nothing like negotiating those tiny aisles six times to get up and pee.) The good news is that boys are slower to mature than girls so that extra baking time actually does pay off. Good luck, and if all else fails just paint a smily face on that big beautiful belly. It may not make you happy, but it does wonders on the over stressed daddy to be (its a good way to score a foot rub).

BABBYYY, I have four kids... all girls. I read one of the responses about the castor oil and I can honestly tell you a little goes a long way. you just have to be strong. all you need is a teaspoon in about eight oz of oj. Now I've never heard anyone saying drink it out of a straw. We always say drink it as fast as you can because it it nasty as hell. If you take this advice, I would suggest drinking it about seven at night. the reason is by the time ten/ten-thirty hits, you will already be feeling the contractions. Instead of going stright to ER, walk it out, of course with someone. I tell you to walk that late because if you don't want anyone in your face, do it while the might be sleep that way you don't have to deal with the fake sympothy. Good luck "mommy" and update me.
