Hey Mama's,

My son will be 9 months old on Monday and he is eating table food and had been for about a month now. My problem is I need so new food ideas. He had been eating peas and carrots, black beans, green beans, banana, organic Mott's applesauce, Potatoe, hard boiled egg, scredded cheese, gerber puffs, graham crakers, saltines (no salt), bread, chicken nuggets, baked tater tots. I'm going to get cubed pears and peaches this weekend at the store. I need some new foods to feed him mainly for dinner, and my thinking cap is not thinking anymore.

Gosh, I wish I hadn't sold all of my babyfood books on ebay!!! My last child wouldn't tolerate something in processed baby foods very well, so I made his baby food since he was about 3 mos old. I am trying to think...Elizabeth hit on a lot of the ones I can remember. Avocado is an EXCELLENT food for babies (I remember ALL my books saying how good it was)!!! Steamed butternut squash was one of jaxons FAVS!!! I steamed and processed a lot of the leafy greens (you could just steam them and cut them up small now probably). Papaya and mango were good also!!!

I will keep thinking to see what I can come up with!!! If I think of anything will shoot you a message!!!!

hugs and blessings

I just wanted to say what a great mom. The kid eats better than I do. I will be where you are now in 10 months (Elizabeth will be born in June). I love all the information I get from other moms on here!

You sound like a good momma!

He's at an age that you can do combinations too now - Avacado and chicken mixed together have tons of protein and good plant based fats. Green beans sauteed with a touch of olive oil and diced tomatoes is another good one. Mangos, steamed broccoli or cauliflower. Ham, scrambled eggs, whole wheat pasta (mac & cheese). Tortillas with cheese and ham or quesidillas with chicken and cheese. Edamame (the soy beans - really good source of easily digestible plant based proteins). Hopefully that will get your started - my friend had a good book on recipes for small kids for a do-it-yourself approach to baby food. I will ask her what the name of the book is and email it to you. Hope that helps!!

I have a great book that I use for making baby food, but it's a three part book and the back part of it lists all sorts of things for babies at your stage of eating. It's by Annabel Karmel (who is a Cordon Bleu chef) and the book is called The Healthy Baby Meal Planner. She has all sorts of fun ideas of what to make for that stage of eating. And they arn't difficult gourmet things with ingredients noone has heard of, they are practical things along with some fun creative things too.

I always worry about mine not getting enough veggies. I have started giving my 11 month old an ear of corn and she LOVES it! I also slice sweet potatoes and drizzle with EVOO and bake. I tried tofu but she didn't like it. I think it was the texture more than the taste. Cottage cheese and cream cheese on toast. I make miniture meat loaves in muffin tins with tomatoes and she loves that. Lean ground beef is good because it crumbles. black-eyed peas, fruit cups of oranges. I even give her jello every once in a while. It is fun to see her eat! grilled cheese, diced lunch meat, canned beets, she loves pico and mexican rice.

My little girl love shredded honey glazed turkey breast from the deli. She also likes the yo-baby yogurt and mandarin orange slices in a can. She also likes avocados, tomatoes and wheat crackers as a meal.

My 2 YO eats a lot of tyson chicken nuggets and loves dipping them. So, I still by the gerder stage 2 carrotts and give him a container of them to dip his nuggetts in so that he at least gets his veggies. Also, both my kids love corn.

Thay actually have baked fish fillets for fast meals now. Here are some ideas... yogurt, bananas, steamed broccoli (my 1yr old LOVES steamed broccoli) or cauliflower with maybe some cheese, steamed carrots, green beans, plain noodles with butter, grilled chicken or fish (cut up, obviously), oatmeal (another favorite), Gerber cereal bars, waffles or pancakes with very little syrup, spaghetti (messy, but fun). That is all I can think of now... Wow.. maybe I need some ideas too...

Peel a whole apple and give it to him. It's so cute seeing them knaw on it. My son eats the whole thing!

Pears are great too because they are so soft. (just no strawberries until he is one).

Basically any veggie that is steamed or boiled is good. Mix it up with ground beef boiled shredded chicken or rice.

My son loves yogurt, oatmeal, homemade guacamole on a quesedilla (just avacado, chopped tomato, lemon juice and fresh chives)

Tuna salad maybe with crackers too. My son also really loves salmon that has been grilled.

I had a horrible time feeding my son at this age because he didn't get his first tooth until after his first birthday. We did things like ramana noodles, the baby raviolis by Gerber, the sausages in a jar by Gerber, basically we had to do a lot of the Gerber products for toddlers. They are a little pricey but they come in handy. Oh yeah and spaghettios where great he still loves them.

In additional to the other wonderful things already mentioned, my dughter likes spiral pasta (I buy Wacky Mac Veggie Spirals @ Wal Mart) served either plain or with a little marinara, and I also sautee fresh squash and zucchini in olive oil with a can of stewed tomatoes. Although my daughter is just now getting her 1st tooth at 13 months, she eats basically anthing the family eats (within reason, of course!).

My DD likes veggie burgers and veggie "chicken" nuggets. I have found that the ones made by morning star have more nutritional value.

Hi J.,

My 10 month old little boy has had absolutely nothing to do with any kind of baby food ever!! So, I went to Wal-Mart and bought a mini food processor for $10 and whatever we ate for dinner, he would get it all mixed up in the food proc. and he looooves it! I also do it for lunch. His favorites are: Turkey, baby spinach, shredded cheese; Ham, avacodo and sometimes I'll put a few pieces of wheat bread in there too; and he also loves sliced beef with brocolli, or green beans and rice. You can put anything in those things and it'll make it as fine as baby food, or if you just pulse it, it can be a little chunkier. Hope this helps a little.

I also wanted to mention that my pediatrician is always reminding us that little ones under the age of 1 year are not suppose to have eggs yet. She also says they're not suppose to have honey yet either. I never asked why though.

Mac & cheese is a good one. I feed my 9 month old what ever we are eatting for dinner. If we have chicken, he does to. The only exception is when we have something that is too spicy hot. He loves Spaghetti, and eats meats well, as well as veggies. Just make sure that what you give him is cut to a small enough size that he doesn't choke!

J. - Try the little meat sticks (chicken, beef, and turkey). They are made by Libbey or Armour and can be found on the canned meat aisle of the grocery store. I never thought I would feed these to my daughter because I am not a fan. I tried it and she LOVES them! I cut them up into little slices and she sucks them down. You can also try pasta with a little butter and parmesan cheese.
Good Luck!
