Hi Moms I have quite a dilemma! I was offfered a job to work at a private preschool and I can bring my 2 1/2 year old daughter will me all day for free. The only catch is she has to be potty trained which she is not. We bought her a potty over a year ago so she is very familiar with it. I attempted to formally train her after she turned two because she was physically ready. She stayed dry for a couple of hours at a time and is dry when she wakes up from her nap. We prepeared her by setting up a reward system, read many books, watched the Elmo Potty DVD a few times. When we tried training I tried the bare butt method and she went a couple of times and had a couple of accidents. She is now scared of the potty and and doesn't even like her dipaer off to take a bath. She has such a fear of having an accident. I know this shows she's not emotionally ready so I was going to wait until she was more comfortable. My question is there any way to push her along so that she can go with me to my job? Which I know she would love because I've stayed home with her since she was born. Or do I wait and pay to send her to a babysitter all day? I don't want to push her but I think she would really benefit being with me at a preschool. I have a week before I start my job any suggestions would be appreciated!

What can I do next?

Tell her mommy would like her to go with her to work, but she has to be potty trained first......put it in words she will understand.........that she has to be a really big girl..........then go over the DVD again.....and keep a good eye on her......

If it doesn't work, she's not ready.....hire a baby sitter, but consistent with training at home, sitter and where ever......put great effort in this and in no time, she'll be on board....

Hang in there....and congrats on the job...

My daughter was potty trained in about 3 days using the e-book at www.3daypottytraining.com. It is well worth the 25 bucks. She was two months shy of her 3rd birthday (I would have done it at 2 1/2 but I waited until my son was about 5 months old). It is an amazing method and the book will take you through every step and problem you might encounter. Good luck and congrats on the new job.

I was crazy! I listened to my husband for some reason and started potty training the week I got home with my newborn.....must have been the meds! It's six months later and she is finally potty trained. When people say it clicks it just clicks. I have seen some parents have the potty in the family room and let there kids watch cartoons to get used to it and not see it as something bad. I think I tried everything! Then one day about a week ago she just did it and has gone on her own ever since. I think once we actually put panties on her she didnt like the wet feeling. Not sure if that helps? My daughter was always dry through naps and over night...good luck!

Yikes. I am sure you will get GREAT ideas from many but I will tell you what my pediatrician told me, you let them go at their own pace. I tried like crazy to get my son to do it in my time frame and it became a MESS!

Let her do it on her own terms and she will be potty trained sooner. If she is able to understand your explanations for "why" you want her to use the potty she just might cooperate. Girls are better about hearing you than boys are ;).

SHe is totally old enough to understand if you tell her"mommy is going to work, you get to come along, but you have to use the potty. " put a pull up on her. You'll be there to help deal with any accidents the preschool is used to accidents, trust me. She will love it, and once she sees all the other kids going potty, she will too.

My son goes to kindercare and learned to potty there - they gave me help and encouragment to keep it going at home. I think having the other children around who are potty trained, having the little toilets, having other kids to see potty and to see in underwear really helped my son. You may want to ask your local kindercare if you can have her go there to be pottytrained if you have one locally and your budget can handle it.

Good luck!
