New Medication

My 15 year old son has been treated for depression and anxiety, which is thought to be caused by lack of proper treatment of his ADD. He is currently taking Conserta for ADD and is doing pretty well. However, as Conserta is a controlled substance and a stimulant, we are looking to try something without a stimulant. His psych. has recommended trying Stattera. I have heard some terrible stories and I'm wondering if any one has a teen on Strattera who has had good results.

What can I do next?

My little brother was on Strattera when he was 16-17 and he did not do good w/it. It did help him with school but it made him not want to eat (he was 6'2 and weighed 255 at that age...he ate a ton)He was also hot all the time...like hot flashes. But like everyone else has said...every child/person is different. It the drugs were not affective for some...they would not have them on the market.
Good luck...sometimes it's just trial and error. Just make sure that he is being very closely monitored by a phychiatrist to watch for warning signs.

Good morning. Both of my boys were on Stratera (sp). It did not work for them. In fact, it didn't do anything!! I was told that that medication works mostly on adults. Who knows. Everyone is different. I hate that my boys have to be on a medication that has a stimulant, but I didn't have a choice. Their grades were awful and they were climbing the walls! My youngest son (13) is on a new medication for ADD called Focalin. Works great! He's not a zombie, which I hated! Good luck!

Dear T.~
Just do your research and make an informed decision. There is no way to tell how a particular medication will effect your child. Look up ANY medication and you will find both positive and negative extremes (hence, the immunization debate). Treating ADD is a tricky thing, especially during the teenage years when your child will start to react differently to medicines than he did as a young child. You will do the right thing, b/c you are questioning the treatment and doing your homework first. Good luck and I hope you find what is right for your family.

Hi T.,

I sent this to someone else whose daughter is bipolar and has ADHD and I wanted you to know also.

Good morning Amanda {ü}

First you must take her off all dairy and processed foods. And please don't get her vaccinated for anything else, if she's been getting them. Give your daughter liquid minerals, vitamins, essential fatty acids (Omega 3,6, 9, definitely 3) Your daughter can be cured! She's also acting the way she does because she's lacking key nutrients. Check out these websites too. When you get those products, take them for yourself too!
notmilk.com, knowledgeofhealth.com, drclark.net, healthline.cc
marytocco.com,
Medication doesn't heal, it only causes more and new problems! And counseling doesn't get to the root of the problem like the right nutrients do. When we give our bodies what it needs, it will heal itself! The meds that your daughter is on is pulling vital nutrients from her body! Go to Natural Food Patch in Ferndale,###-###-####, and ask for Tina or Charlene. They can help you and your family. They have the most reasonable health products. I made my son homemade almond milk. It's more work, but it's worth it. Let me know if you want the recipe.
Be Blessed!
