New to Burlington - Looking for Pediatrician, Parks and Other Toddler/baby Fun

We've just relocated to Burlington from Dallas, TX and I'm looking for some advice on finding a local pediatrician as well as good parks and other fun activities for a 2 yr old (and her 2 mo old brother). Also, if there are any local "mom" groups or associations, I'd be very interested in learning about them.

thanks in advance for your help!

What can I do next?

Hello,

Well, welcome to New England!! I love Dallas, I have been a million times. It is probably a big change but it can be great here also. People take a minute to warm up but they get there!! Anyway I recently moved to Stoneham which is a few exits from you. I go to great place where all doctors are in the same building. My OBGYN is the best I have been to. She made me very comfortable and she was great all through my first pregnancy, if you are interested her name is Dr. Lorna Wilkerson. My pediatrician is also good she is in the same building. There is a fairly large group of them so if you ask they have litle flyers on all of them and their specialty! My peds name is Dr. Pamela Swearigen but I have gone a few times to a Dr. Hoder a few times and I have thought about switching. Anyway the address is:
Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates
20 Wall Street
Burlington, Ma 01803 ###-###-#### (this is ped line I can't find the main # they will transfer you)They also have a web site it is www.harvardvanguard.org I hope this helps!!

Hi there,

I have a daughter who's almost 8 months and we take her to Woburn Pediatrics. They have been great! There are many doctors and nurse practioners and everytime I have ever had a concern, they got me right in that same day. I'd recommend them.

Welcome to New England! I also use Woburn Pediatrics and they are great. My daughter's primary is Dr. Burba who is wonderful, but we have seen the other docs and nurses there and they are all great!!

We go to Little Gym once a week (also in Woburn), but right off 128 for a little fun!! A lot of moms bring their little ones and they snooze in their car seat while mom & older sibling play. It is also a great way to meet other moms in the area.

Both of the previous posts list the best Pediatric practices in the area, from everyone I've talked to. I don't know if Woburn Pediatrics has an affiliation with Children's Hospital - Harvard Vanguard definitely does as well as with Winchester Hospital.

I agree that Dr. Wilkerson is fantastic. I had a couple of appointments with her, but my OB/GYN is Dr. Nada Samaha, who I also highly recommend.

I'm a working mom, so I don't know much about play groups in the area. So, I'm curious to see other responses you get to that question! :)

I take my daughter for walks (& runs) at Horn Pond in Woburn. If you haven't been there, it's beautiful & there are lots of families. Lake Quannapowitt (sp?) in Wakefield is also nice, but more crowded, though there is a playground by the bandstand & church. The paths at Horn Pond aren't as exposed to automobile traffic either.

Welcome to New England!

Welcome to New England! I live in Woburn and I just love my sons pediatric practice. We take him to Woburn Pediatrics and the nurse practitioners there are just WONDERFUL. I'm not sure how close you are to Woburn, but I recommend this practice because there has not been a time where I have waited for more than 3 minutes over my scheduled time, anytime I have called with an issue I have received a call back from the doctor on duty within 15 minutes, I have never had a problem with getting my son in when he is sick, the nurses seem to take special care while giving shots because my son doesn't seem to react as strongly as most kids I hear about! Oh, and they have never ever made me feel stupid about calling... BIG PLUS!

On another note, I will be trying to start a kid/mom swim group this summer. Nothing like a lesson, just a time for kids to splash in the pool with mommy before nap time! Let me know if you would be interested!
