We just moved less than a month ago. Have a 2 yr old and a 4 yr old boy. I am overwhlemed with how to acclimatize the kids to new environment-how to have them meet new friends who could possibly be their friends also in school (we plan to enroll in lakewood). Any suggestions on what to join in?

What can I do next?

You can try the Lakewood Early Childhood PTA: http://www.lecpta.org/

Dallas Blooms will start at the Arboretum in early March. It has activities for kids on Mondays and Tuesdays: http://www.dallasarboretum.org/DallasBlooms/index.htm

The library in Northpark mall also has lots of kids activties: http://dallaslibrary2.org/branch/bookmarks.php

We have our daughter enrolled in a MDO program at a local church. Most of the kids in the program are ones she will be in school with in a few years.

Get a family membership as the local YMCA. Start playing Ymca sports. Those are the same kids they will be in class with.
Also, pick a church in your nieghborhood. They will get a classroom setting and get to work on socialization skills. Our church has a lot of community outreach activities so we can come together as a community. FOr instance we did a big family superbowl watch party and invited the whole neighborhood.
The local library probably has a storytelling time each week or movie nights.
These are ways for you to get aclimated and make freinds too!

Hi! Welcome! We just moved here to Dallas from Chicago just over a year ago, and TOTALLY understand how overwhelming it can be! But you're in luck- we also live in Lakewood, and I have a 2 and 4 year old as well! So, if you want to email me directly, I'd be more than happy to give you some ideas, and maybe we can do a play date! My name is H.- email ____@____.com. Again, welcome- Dallas has been great so far, especially with kids! But sorry about your first month of weather- normally that's a selling point!

I live in the M Streets. Tracy is right. I found joining things my kids were interested in or me helped. When my oldest was born (now 4 yo girl) I joined my Church's Mom's group (St. Thomas) and it's been great for mtg Moms and friends for her. Also, get involved with ballet or swim and your kids are bound to meet fun kids. Tietze off of Skillman is a great park since kids are always there. Lakewood park off of Williamson is pretty good too. Feel free to email directly to chat more. Good luck!

I'm sure that lakewood has an ECPTA - join that.

Also - go to the Tietze park playground (or any other playground) - its a great place to meet other parents of young children.
