I am new this year to the Twin cities. My husband is in school full time, so I am running a small music studio in my home while I stay home with my 3 year old. I am also pregnant now. I just need advice about how to connect with other moms. We are having a tough time making enough money for my husband's schooling and I really want to advertise my music classes to stay at home moms, but don't know the resources available to me. I think I would appreciate advice about how to advertise with a low income and how to run a business while being a pregnant mommy. Also maybe some good referals or ways I can improve my business in a new town. THe first 3 responses I got to this request were helpful, but all the things they suggested are things I have tried already and not much has come of it. I think there are a lot of working moms in my area. I am hoping to find out about some ways to advertise to mom's groups or something like that where there might be more stay at home moms that could attend my classes during the week. The classes are for birth to age 5 so it's importnant that a caregiver of some sort be present and participate. It's Musikgarten. So if anyone knows about moms groups in the area that might be interested that I could communicate with, that would help! Thanks.

What can I do next?

Try going to ECFE (Early Childhood Family Education)classes. Check with the Minneapolis Public Schools for schedule for the upcoming school year. These classes are free and fill up pretty quickly. Also you could go to some of the more family friendly coffee shops and put up flyers. Also check with your local park/rec center and/or library about posting some flyers. Good Luck!

You might also try advertising at places where moms/groups already congregate: libraries for story hour (downtown and neighborhood locations), Auntie Em's (coffee shop with story hour), Amazon Bookstore (saturday story hour), Wild Rumpus bookstore (Monday story hour and always crawling with kids/moms), neighborhood rec centers that have frequent activities(McRae, Diamond Lake, Nokomis). You can also try advertising on Twin Cities' parent zone: http://twincities.parentzone.com/index.asp?.
You can also try the local Parent's Magazine - I've seen a lot of similar ads there.
As a mom with 2 under 3, I am always looking at these places for info/activities for my family -hope this is somewhat helpful. I do not have a particular "mom" group to connect you with, but there are MOM chapters in the Twin Cities that you might want to look into...good luck!! By the way, this is also a great source - list your service as a resource, if you haven't already. :)

What type of music classes would you be offering? My suggestions are to put up fliers in local stores and coffe shops near your home.

H.,
Hi, my name is S.. I am a mother of two wonderful children. I, like you, love staying home with my babes. I have a one year old and a three and a half year old. To bring in extra money on the side I do hair out of my home, and I have a business with Arbonne International. Since, I started five months ago I haven't gotten a pay check for less than $250. I realize that that is not a lot of money, but I also haven't had to do much at all. I really just fit it in tho the nooks of my busy life. My paychecks could be more if I were putting more time into it, but that is all I can give right now. I would love to share more with you if you are interested. It has been such an amazing journey so far and when you are working it doesn't feel like work, because you are having soo much fun, being around such positive, successful women. It has enriched our lives, and given me a balance every mommy needs. You can email me for questions at ____@____.com. I know this could be an awesome fit for you without having to take much time out of your home.
God bless,
S.
