I have a three week old baby and my toddler has a cold.
Now she is congested. She does not have a fever. Any advice on how to keep her comfortable?

What can I do next?

Elevate the head of her crib by putting books under the mattress and use a humidifier. Also, use saline dops and suction her nose before feedings and bed. It seems like the other moms have the same suggestions! My baby is sick with a cold she caught from my son and the doctor gave us the same advice.

Homeopathic medicine is safe for a newborn. They make kids formula's specially for colds and cough. I like Alpha CF. Go for the liquid. Also, if you are breastfeeding she gets things through the breast milk. Word of caution, though. Anything that dries up your nose (any anti-histamine from large doses of Vitamin C to benadryl) will also dry up your breast milk (since it is part of the lymph system.)
Good luck!

The best thing that helped my kids at that age was the hot shower sauna. Go in the bathroom, close the door and turn on the hot water in the shower. Sit in the room and let it fill up with steam. Sit there as long as you can stand it. This does wonders to loosen up everything in the sinuses and will help to drain everything out.

Hope they feel better soon!

My baby is just getting over a cold that she's had for about two weeks. She is 13 weeks old. We used a bulb syringe to suction out her nose a few times a day (as needed). We would put saline drops in her nose first to keep it from getting irritated. We also used a cool-mist humidifier in the bedroom at night.

For a couple of nights, I had her sleep in the swing so she was more upright. When they are lying flat, the post-nasal drip can really irritate their throats, make them cough too much, etc.

I hope she gets better soon!

Add a cool mist humidifier to her room-use saline drops and a plunger to keep her nose clear. If she is too congested to lay flat you can put a towel under the mattress to keep her head elevated for comfortable breathing-I know its just awful when babies get sick-good luck!
