If anyone can offer me a word of advice, I would greatly appreciate it. My new baby girl sleeps all day and is up all night. She was wide awake last night from 10:30pm until 5:30am. Not very fussy, just wanted to stay up and would get unhappy when we tried to put her down. Today, once again, she has been sleeping all day and I know we're in for another long night....HELP!

What can I do next?

how old is she? my son had his days and nights mixed up for several weeks. we kept him awake with cold water washclothes, hair dryers, singing, being outside etc etc. a good book to read is "healthy sleep habits, happy child". also you probably have to adjust your own sleeping time to be more during the day. it will not last forever!

How old is your daughter? If old enough I would try to find some toys to entertain her. My son slept during the day as well when he was first born, but once he turned 2months he slept thru the night.

Hope that helps

During the day try to keep her well entertained. Make sure there is a lot of light coming through your house so she knows that it's daytime. At night, get into a routine. Feed her at the same time every night if possible, give her a bath, sing a song or read her a book (it's never too early) and turn off all the lights. When the lights go off it's quiet time. If you have to have a light on for night-time feedings or diaper changes, try just to have a night light on. The key is to be consistent. Hopefully this works for you.

I had one child like that. What worked for us is to play with the baby in the late afternoon into early evening to keep her awake. Allow some napping if she must have it, but for the most part, try to keep her stimulated. It will take a week or more to really switch her schedule around.

I always found it difficult to get supper made while at the same time trying to keep my son awake. Early evening is a busy time for a mother. Hopefully you can get some support from your husband or other children.
