Newborns and Diapers

I have a newborn baby boy and I am having trouble with his diapers. No matter the size he wakes up with pee up his back, but only on one side. I have tried several brands and several sizes. I feel like they are tight enough but he has small hips and a small behind any suggestions or does this happen to everyone?

I have 2 boys ages 13 and 4. Had the same problem with both. I know this sounds funny but the reason this happened to us is b/c i forgot to point "it" down before I sealed up the diaper. Try it. It just might work. :)

Yes, this did happen to my baby boy quite a lot too. I also tried many diapers and found that Huggies seemed to work the best for us! I hope that this helps out a little! S.

Hey J.,

Been there, done that! I've got 2 boys (ages 2 and 4). We totally had that problem too. We bought Pampers Swaddlers and remember to point his little man DOWN when you put his diaper on. If it is UP, it will run up his back.

If you're dreading the thought of going back to work, then we need to talk. I'd love to share with you how I found a way to earn a GREAT income from home AND be a full time mom to my boys.

I live in Humble and my parents live in Conroe, so maybe we could meet and do lunch?

Call me anytime ###-###-####.

ps...I'm also a retired Pediatic Nurse, so don't hesitate to call if you need more advice.

Hi J.,

I have had the same experience. I found Luv's to be my only option because it seems all the diapers do that. I'm told pampers work best so I am going to try that. Maybe putting a plastic pant over the diaper would help contain the wetness. Shy of waking the baby up every couple of hours (which if you need the sleep you don't want to do) If you find some advice that works, let me know. Have an awesome day.

Hi...I remember those days very well. The Pampers Swaddlers worked best for my little man. Also, check for 2 VERY important things...

- Be sure the little ruffles around the legs are out & not tucked in.

- Be sure to point his little wee-willy down before closing the diaper.

If he was circumcised, and you are still having to glob it with vaseline, then that will somtimes "waterproof" the diaper. So be sure to get the vaseline only on his little willy, then cover with gauze (unless things have changed in 4 years).

If you have any other questions, please feel free to email me. I have a 4-yr-old boy and a 20-month-old girl. Nothing gives me more pleasure than to help out a new mom. I remember those days very well, and it was always nice to have someone who had been there before to drill for information.

Good luck!!

Hi J.,
My daughter (not with boy parts though) is small and tiny bottom and waist as well, and I went through all of the diapers too. I finally settled on Luvs as they never leak during the day and rarely at night. She has woken up with a wet body, but I see that more during times of development or when she has had a lot to drink before bed and the diaper is just totally saturated. Try them, if you haven't already, and even try different sizes as the weights overlap, and see if the diaper is saturated. If it's not, then try another size up or down.

Best of luck,
Georgia

Hey J.,

I just wanted to ease your worry by letting you know that I had the same problem with my baby boy. Really they just have to grow into their diapers. The things that helped me was to make sure his little "wee wee" is pointed down, sometimes it shot straight up and so leaked right out. If that isn't an issue the other option that helped was to just put two diapers on him at night, or during the day if you are having issues around the clock.
Hope that helps!
Thanks,
Tara

This happened to my daughter too when she was little. I tried every brand but I liked white cloud from walmart the best for this problem then when she was a little older I switched to Luvs. Huggies were the worst for leakage.

Awwww, if it makes you feel any better, it used to happen to mine all of the time!! I have 3, my first was no problem, but the second two, Good Lord!! I too tried different sizes, and it didn't seem to matter....are you finding that the whole diaper is soaked, or just the one side?? See, mine just peepee'd a whole lot at night. They are now 1 1/2 and 2 1/2 and they still pee pee a ton at night!! It'll get better, I promise! Is this your first???

First of all, relax. It sounds normal. Their bodies are nowhere near where the diapers can absorb sometimes no matter what you do. There is something out there called a diaper doubler. They are hard to find and it is just an extra disposable pad that fits inside the diaper. Another thing, be sure to point Mr Winky down when you change him. Sometimes that kind of gives it a point of direction when it goes off. When I could not find doublers, I took a large cloth diapers and cut them into fourths and made a "reuseable" pad of my own and that helped a lot. let me know how it goes and remember to enjoy him cause these days will never come again. Don't forget to read to him every night cause he is not too young even now to get into the habit of being read to.

May you always have enough.....

My first child was a boy and he had a lot of problems with that too. I found if I did a bigger size that went up higher on his stomach and back and then made it tight on him that worked better. I always thought I was doing them too tight on him but you can make them tighter and it really doesn't hurt them! I was always afraid of making it too tight. I hope this helps a little.

I used the pampers swaddlers and they seemed to work best with my tiny boy because they have the elastic on the back which helped hold liquids in. Also, is the diaper full or just leaking? As my boy has grown, his diapers were getting full at night so we had to use a bigger diaper at night to hold it all. Another great suggestion, invest in several mattress protectors and sheets, then layer them on top of each other. That way, in the middle of the night when the bed is wet, you take off the top layer, and right back in little baby goes into a dry bed.
