I too wondered about this, but with the kids in daycare, they are learning almost everything they learn in preschool. I think it is for stay at home moms/kids so they can get socialization. They say for kindergarten, kids should be able to play with others, share and tie their shoes. Past that, don't worry!

see if your daycare has preschool instruction...meaning they work on letters, numbers, manners etc. our daycare did "skills" a couple of hourse a day. they do also offer ecfe classes at night...check it out within your community.

N., check with your local school district, who should have an ECFE (Early Childhood Family Education) program that offers evening classes with and without parents. With two working parents, do you have your children in a daycare? You can find many excellent daycare providers that incorporate preschool curriculums into their daily schedule. Also, don't underestimate the continual informal learning that occurs in that setting and the social skills they are learning with the interaction of a mixed-age group. Kids learn best through play!!

Good luck,
S.

I'm curious what your goals are for preschool. If your child is in daycare they really don't need a preschool experience IMO. Preschool is mostly about the social experience (even though some claim an academic focus).

But in terms of scheduling drop off and pick up during the day, I know many parents either enroll in a daycare that offers preschool or coordinate with grandparents or carpooling groups.
