i keep seeing the nighttime line of lotions and baby wash... do they really "soothe" more than the regular stuff? does it smell good? i want to try it, but don't want to waste my money if it doesn't work as advertised...

What can I do next?

I agree with Jaime B., all those scented lotions and washes are too harsh on their delicate skin, even though they do smell good I would personally not use them only for this reason. My daughter did not tolerate all that type of stuff and I ended up using Dove soap and Eucerin unscented body lotion as per recommended by her pedi. and her skin was much softer with less irritation.

I have 3 young boys (4y, 2 1/2y, and 6m) and they are pretty restless at bedtime. I tried out a few of the "night time" "soothing" bath stuff and I can say that most do work more than the regular stuff. It all really depends on what you get. At first I tried the Walmart brand of Jonson&Jonson lavender bedtime bath soap, and it worked...but then they changed something in it and now it really stinks to me and it doesn't seem to work as well. The best one imo is the Jonson&Jonson one. I know it's a bit more money, but it works and doesn't over power you with "smell good stuff" lol. Really, anything with lavender should work.

Hope this helps! Good luck!

They do smell very nice, and I don't think they cost more. I was using the Aveeno brand but then I noticed that the Up & Up Target brand has the same ingredients for less $$$ and I really like it. It smells nice AND makes lots of bubbles. A big bottle was only about $3. It does not however "soothe" my 2 or 5 year old! It just makes them smell pretty and clean!

I buy the store brands of the nighttime stuff. Don't think it soothes, but I LOVE LOVE the smell!

If you pay attention to that commercial, they don't say that clinical studies (or whatever the wording is) prove that their PRODUCT is proven to be soothing. What is proven to be soothing is routine, and the calming effects of a warm bath before bed. So, by all means, give a bath before bed, but don't feel the need to use any particular company's products when you do so!

I have used both the bedtime bath and lotion. If there has been a difference it was subtle. I do like smell though. Either way your child will get clean, so I guess it can't hurt. Happy shopping.

I dont believe it. I got the chamomile/lavander baby wash and lotion and on the bottle it says to help soothe or something like that. Nope doesnt work, however my husband loves the smell of it so we use it.

You shouldn't load you children down with perfumes and other aromatic scents for bath time. Their pore open up and can cause allergic reactions. The best thing to use is just plain and simple soaps like Johnson and Johnson Head to Toe, or other maybe organic and sensitive soaps, and Cetaphil makes a great after non scent lotion. The last thing you want is your is your child up all night with a rash. Simple is always better. Good Luck. Not to mention, that soothe and relax stuff never works for me, so I definitely wouldn't use it on my child. A good warm bath is soothing enough.

Makes no difference, but does smell pretty good. My daughter is 2.5 and could use the same soap as I do (Dove), but I still use baby soap on her because I like the smell and I just don't want to give that up yet. :)

I've been using California Baby Calming Botanical Moisturizing Cream since my DD was born and have never had problems with clogging pores as it's made for babies. I'm a massage therapist (PT) and rather than just applying the lotion, I've used the lotion to massage my DD as massages are great for...well.. everyone... especially little ones and their growing bodies. My DD is 2 1/2 and I've switched to a summer lotion (L'OCCITANE Verbena Harvest - light, and bugs don't like the smell but we do!) and winter lotion with lavender which is known to have a calming effect.

Her Daddy says I spoil her because again, I make sure to give her a massage when applying (takes about 10 minutes and it doubles as Mommy/DD time). I think he's just jealous =)

Here is a great website about the benefits of infant massage: http://www.parenthood.com/article-topics/the_joys_and_ben...

look for products that are paraben free. paraben is known to be cancer causing. Avenno and Berts Bees are good choices. i would rather not slather my kid in chemicals. you can smell the product under the lid. some times there is a seal but you can still get a faint wiff of those products. lavendar ( or what ever those night time products have )bed time does actually help a little. but its not going to knock your child out. i like the way it smells too.

Personally- I am not a fan of P&G and Johson&Johson. Their products tend to be very harsh to the skin and hair. I only use a little dove soap on a wash cloth to get the "stink" off. I use plain jojoba oil to moisturize their skin. I'm sure there are plenty of brands that sell scented baby stuff that would be better for your baby's skin. If you're interested in a soothing scent, you could always put sachets of lavender over the airvents in your baby's room. That would accomplish the same end without causing any skin issues.

We received some nightime baby wash and lotion as a baby gift. They didn't seem to soothe or calm the baby any more than regular products. What they DID do is cause an allergic reaction in ME! So then hubby started using them to bathe the baby (didn't want to waste the gift). But the smell on the baby still got to me. Needless to say, we don't use those any more!

My experience is the same as everyone else said. I don't know that it really calms my daughter, but I just LOVE the smell. I would buy the name brand though, even though it is a little more than the store brand. I have bought both the Johnson's and Up & Up brand from Target, and Johnson's smells so much better and the smell lasts longer in their hair. Walmart has it pretty cheap, too.

The smell is actually pretty strong. It doesn't do anything in the way of calming either. Overall, its just OK. Don't waste your money.
