I stopped nursing over 7 months ago. I noticed that one nipple was itchy but there was a discharge coming out of both nipples. However the discharge looked like my breast milk. I am so grossed out. Is this a yeast infection? I wash my bras frequently and shower everyday. Should I see a doctor?
I went to my doctor and had bloodwork done. Nothing came up abnormal, so I guess no news is good news. The itching was caused by me using a new body wash. So, praise the Lord!
try Jarro Dophilus u can get it at Wholefoods...usually wipes out a yeast infection if that's what it is.
I started leaking last June and it totally freaked me out, as I hadn't breatfed for 1 yr. I went to the doctor....it wasn't an infection, it was my hormones going crazy because I was pregnant! It was definitely a wonderful surprise!
You need to go see your doctor. An infection needs to be treated. Go to the doctor!
It takes time for breasts to COMPLETELY dry up, after stopping nursing.
I breastfed both my kids, and each time, after they stopped breastfeeding and was weaned... it took my breasts about 1 year for it to dry up!
This is common.
But ask your Doctor if you are concerned, because you said you also have an "itch" too. Which could or could not be normal. We all itch from time to time too.

When I stopped breastfeeding my son I drying up pretty quick but about 6months maybe. Even 9 months later I had just a little bit of milk that would come out, like a drop. I would think its still milk but check with your doctor to be sure. Depending on your body and if in any way your breasts are being stimulated, my guess is just a little milk. But always be on the safe side and get it checked. Hope it all is fine!

DEF. see a doctor!!! It's probably an infection or a hormonal thing, but nipple discharge can be a sign of cancer. Not to scare you but go get checked. Better safe than sorry. I doubt it's something that serious but please go get checked.
Diflucan is good for thrush in the nipples. SEE DR :)
Some women do have leakage even after stopping breastfeeding for several months. The fact that your nipples are itching may mean you have a infection. You should see your doctor.
i would see a doctor. discharge can mean a number of things.

I stopped BFing at 16 months with my first son and for another 6 months I had milk. I didn't have letdown or any engorgement, but I still had milk.
If it was itchy and has stayed itchy, you might want to get it checked out.
If you aren't wearing cotton bras already, now would be a good time to start. They breathe so that your nipples won't get as moist as with synthetic fabrics.
If they are red or have red blotchy spots and are itchy, it could be a fungal infection. Call your doctor. It's easily treated with a prescription cream.

I had complete let downs of milk for about a year after I weaned my son any time I heard a baby cry from hunger. I also got my milk back for years after I wasn't nursing at every period.
Other signs of yeast in your milk ducts: shooting pains in your breasts and cracked / bleeding nipples. If you are having any wierd symptoms I agree - go see your doc. Grapefruit seed extract pills and good probiotics would help with a systemic yeast infection (inside your body), also virgin (solid form) organic coconut oil - google all to see how and why it works. I did this and mine have been cleared up with no more problems (I am still nursing my 18 month old very successfully). Interesting comment below though - could you be pregnant?
