My daughter knocked her two front teeth jumping on a bed and hitting them on the frame. I however was not with so didn't find out until she couldn't eat corn on the cob. I looked at it and one was turning slight grey and both were loose. I called the dentist and they said dont worry it happens alot but if it develops a bump (abscess) call us. I looked at it today and it is a daker shad of grey now and looks like a slightly raised area on top....Pediatric dentist is now closed...Is this an emergency do i need to bring her in stat?

this happened to me when I was a kid although it was my adult tooth. My front tooth died. My parents never did anything for it, and all through out growing up I was made fun of for having a "brown" tooth. Finally at 30 years old I went and had a crown put on it. My tooth never had a root canal or anything. I was told from the dentist that my tooth in some weird way cleaned itself out and then calcified. I am SO much happier now that that tooth now matches the color of the rest of my teeth! I would call the dentist in the morning. Don't let it go

This just happened to my son (2 1/2). I noticed his tooth was turning grey. I brought him in and the dentist said the tooth was dying or dead. They took an x-ray to be sure that the permanent one and the root wasn't damaged. They said they don't pull it unless it begins to cause pain or it develops an abcess. They also said it was likely to continue to darken as time goes on. :( It's something that they're likely to watch at future dentist appointments but not much they want to do about it until it's causing a problem. Best of luck!

I would go ahead and call the service so the doc can call you back in the morning. The tooth needs to have an X-ray at the very least. I think it will come out but that's okay. They would normally be coming out in the next year anyway.

My daughter had an accident while learning to walk & one of her bottom incisors turned grey but was not loose. The dentist told me at the time that her permanent tooth might be discolored because of it.

I would recommend going to dentist and having them look at it. Btw, my daughter's permanent tooth did come in without discoloration, but I'm not sure her injury was quite the same as your daughter's...mine just hit the carpet really hard. hmmm...

Best of luck!

It is not an emergency unless she spikes a fever or becomes 'listless' (which would indicate head injury in addition to tooth issue).

But I would call 1st thing in the morning and they may have you bring her in tomorrow.

If she's feeling ok (no abscess or infection) I wouldn't think it's an emergency. However, it does sound like the root died... I would call the Dentist and have it looked at. See what he/she recommends. Good luck : )

I would call about the loose tooth and bump, but as far as the color goes, I remember getting a newsletter from the pediatric dentist that said that if a tooth is injured, it may turn gray and that is just the way it is, nothing they can do about it. It even happened with the dentist's son.

This happened to my nephew when he was 4. It wasn't an emergency, and he had to wait until his tooth fell out (naturally at 5+ yo) to get rid of it. Thank goodness it wasn't his adult tooth!

I don't think it's an emergency, but I would call the dentist first thing in the morning.
