Hey everyone my son who is 22 months old has been sick way to long for like 3 weeks. He isn't misrable or anything but he has had a runny nose, cough, and congestion. My mother-in-law just picked him up from daycare and said he is still really congested I am at the point where I know he needs to go to the doctor. My husband and I don't have insurance right now b/c he both switched jobs. So where can I take him? I can take him to his doctor's after hour clinic but it will cost us like $200 something for that. Any suggestions, need them right away please!!!

What can I do next?

It's probably allergies if he's not running an elevated temperature. Get a cool air humidifier and keep it in his room. If you can't afford that get him into a steamy bathroom. Another suggestion, saline water. Put a little salt into some warm water and blow it up his little nose using a nasal aspirator. It seems mean, but it works. He will cry, but you will be amazed how it clears ears, sore throats, stuffed heads and you can't beat the price. It's what we use during the worst of the allergy season. A doctor told us about this. Hope some of this helps you.

J., I completely understand the no insurance part! My suggestion would be that until you and your husband get insurance again, purchase an individual plan for your child. If he doesn't have any pre-existing conditions, you can get a good health plan for really cheap each month! And if that doesn't work.. try and work out a payment plan with the Dr. Just a few weeks back, I did the same thing with my son... hesitated to take him in, and when I finally did... he had Pneumonia! I know if I would of let it go any longer, he would of ended up in the hospital! I know BCBSTX has some good cheap plans as well as Aetna.... Good luck! And I hope your little guy starts feeling better soon!!

Hi,

Sorry to hear your son is sick. Check with your health department and see if they can assist with some options. Also, I have found this to work, a vaporizer in the room, 2 if large, with mentholateum does wonders. The reason many sinus infections occur is dry air and people often forget this, hope it helps. Vicks vaporizers are the best!

Hi J., My children are both on Chip. It's a program for children that families make to much for them to be on medicade. I applied through the mail and they were both accepted through the mail. I did not have to go anywhere it was all done for me. You just go on line and fill out the app. or call 211 and apply over the phone. The office visits are about $5.00 and the perscriptions are $0.00 to $5.00. It also includes dental. My son had to have 8 teeth pulled and I payed to $5.00 visits and that was it. Also I do not know what area you live in but in Lakeway there is a clinic open on Wen. only and have been told that it is a free clinic or almost free clinic. Mostly volunteers work there. Hopefully this will help you. Also pharmacist will offer free advice on medication ove the counter for you. My father-in-law is a pharmcist and he has helped me out with my son when I did not have medical insurance. He has been a life saver to me. I hope your little one gets better. God Bless!!
