Non-Religious Preschols

I highly recommend the preschool program that JCPRD offers. They have a great program and they really prepare the children for kindergarten. I feel that my daughter benefited from their program. The Blue Valley School District has a peer model program that is very reasonable, but it can be a challenge to get in. Both of my kids did this and it really prepared them for school. They had "reading buddies" with older students and they went to music, pe and art.

Go to BlueValleyK12.org for more info about the district. I'm pretty sure the Olathe district has something similar, but I think Shawnee Mission cut their program (Any moms out there that know if SM still has a preschool program???)

You may also want to look at Creme de la Creme, Barstow, Primrose and the Goddard School. Avila University has a Montessori program that is not religiously based. (My daughter went to Avila for a year before we got her into the peer program. We liked it there.)

If you are out and about, pick up a KC Parent magazine. They ususally have a pretty comprehensive listing of schools. It may be helpful. Good luck!

We go to the Global Montessori school in the Plaza on Jefferson St and 47th. It's definitely not religiously based. I like it, for their "holiday show" the kids sang "jiggle bells, which actually doesn't refer to Christmas or Santa" and "my soul is full of love" which has nothing to do with holidays at all, but was very cute. They did though learn about the religious holidays at that time, they made a Menorah, a Christmas tree with their hands, they did something for Kwanzaa and I know they talked about the winter solstice, because they talk about the length of the days throughout the year. As far as I can tell from my son, they didn't actually discuss the religious meaning of any of the holidays, just that this is how different people celebrate this time of year. They are very much into understanding the world and other cultures.

have you tried kiddie college? a friend at work uses them and loves them. she is not religious and hasn't mentioned them being, either. good luck!

There is also Centerbury Prep Schools. They have a couple differnt locations. They have no religious affiliations either. Good luck!
