I just found out my car may be totaled! I am so sad, I love that car. Yeah it is five years old but I love that car!!

Oh yeah, someone rear ended me on the highway this morning. :(

Does anyone else get attached to their cars? or are you the kind that is cool, new car?

It is one of those cute CRVs.

I am so sad.

Oh and apparently I am pretty messed up too. Oops

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Oh I just messed up my neck and back. On a scale from one to ten it is maybe a five with blowing out my knee being a ten. :s

Cupcake, yeah, the mechanic that looked at it said this is young for a Honda. It has 96,000 miles on it. He said it is finally broke in. I am now sulking so they guys keep saying they don't know for sure. I took it in cause we are going out of town and wanted to make sure it is safe. Meh, at least it is safe so maybe one last trip.

Waaahhhh

Oh yea!!! My first car...yellow and black '75 Mach 1 Mustang...V-8..white leather interior with black carpet. With a 8-track tape player and a CB radio...I was styling and wild. Kept it for 10 years...drove it from Virginia to California. But when we got orders to move back to Virginia, my husband said it would never make it back. So we bought some little Nissan Sentra. About a week before we left...we saw it broken down on the side of the road in Oceanside...with a young Marine digging under the hood...my husband almost got out to help him....but he said..."nah". I know I cried for several days after selling that baby. And I still have the original sales contract receipt.....barely over $4000. But the license plate is proudly displayed in my garage this very minute. Those were the days my friend! :(

OH HONEY!! :(

I cried for DAYS when my stupid, piece of sh!t Pontiac Grand Prix was totaled.

Yeah, I was pregnant and super hormonal, and it's not saying much, but that was the nicest car I'd ever owned (and I've had far more than my fair share of piece of sh!t cars!!)

I'm sad for you :(

Aw :( My condolences. Yeah, I had a Honda Accord I was attached to. His name was Cory. Some nut ran the light and totaled him. We sold him to a mechanic and got a great price even in his wretched wrecked state... Cory was a Honda after all. :o)

Yikes. I'm just glad you're okay J..

I had one car I got attached to, my first. It was a 1982 luxury volvo, cracked leather seats, a gas/mildew smell, one million issues, but she sure had a personality and held more than a million sweet memories.

J., I'm sorry that happened to you - that totally stinks. I hope you're ok!

Yeah, my first car was a '98 Plymouth Neon...and it was purple. I called her Prissy bc "she" was a stick shift and I was just learning how to drive one so we had some battles. =) I paid for that car myself and "she" was a big part of my adventures driving to visit friends, going to grad school, learning a new city, etc - she was the one thing from home that went everywhere with me, you know? So yeah, when the time came, I was excited about my "new"car, but was a little surprised that I actually felt a bit emotional when I turned her over to the dealer.

I got over it and enjoyed my new car, but I have fond memories of my first.

Enjoy the CRV!

Oh so sorry! Hate to hear that you are injured as well. Especially since you have out of town plans! :(

But yeah... I am pretty attached to my vehicle too. I've posted on here about it in other responses. Paid for. 2005 Xterra. 6 speed manual. 237,000 miles and still runs sweet! It'd probably be "totaled" if someone hit me more than a fender bender too. :/ I have no interest in car shopping.

Only time I get attached to wrecked cars is when the insurance company's payout won't equal what I have to spend to buy another!!

Sorry you got hurt, too. Being rear-ended, probably some whip-lash, huh? Back in the 90s when sheepskin seat covers were the thing, my brother had just put some on for me and forgot to put the headrest back on my driver's seat. I got rear-ended on the freeway and you can imagine how far my neck hyper-extended w/ out that neckrest there. Yowsa. Feel better soon!

I've totalled 2 cars, makes me sound bad but it doesn't take much for the insurance company to deem it a total loss when the car is old anyway.

I was SO bummed the first time. My very first car (my teenage dream car that I paid for 1/2 myself) was old and cute and I was ready for it to go by the time I sold it because it was unreliable. But my 2nd car... I had picked it out, bought it, wheeled and dealed all by myself. Spent a lot of time in it driving to my long distance boyfriends (now my hubby)... going on road trips together... so when it was totalled, I was so sad. I was defnitely attached. My boyfriend (husband) went to the loss center and cleaned it all out for me and scored me the license plate for memories.

So the 3rd car, I did not get attached because I was still missing my 2nd car. I half-heartedly picked it out a new car and never quite bonded with it. So it was easy to let go when it was "totalled" 7 years later. (BTW, husband was driving this time and it was not our fault, so technically "I" did not total it!)

Anyway, I know the feeling! I am very nostalgic about my first 2 cars. I even had my sister take pictures of me with my first car when I decided to sell it. I think that's what's so hard about a totalling a car, you don't have time to say goodbye ;)

Nope, don't care about my cars at all...I drive company cars and they are not very exciting.

I'm more worried about you! I was rear ended a few years back and ended up having to have my cervical spine fused. It got worse after a couple of days.

Good luck!

So sorry to hear about the car and most importantly about you being hurt. I had whip lash some years back and so be sure you get proper therapy and treatment. You can feel worse the day after and the day after and so on so be sure to get help for you. The car you can replace even though you are heart broken over it.

I am very attached to my car. I have an RX8 I bought for myself the year they came out. 2004. It is exactly what I wanted and I bought it for myself for working so hard. It is paid for and it only has 38K on it... it's babied. No one drives it but me!!!

I am now pregnant with my second child. People keep asking if I am getting a new car. NO! I have had a car seat in the back of my car for 4.5 years and I am not carrying twins. My car is very highly safety rated and it has suicide doors which makes it really easy to get kids in and out of the back seats... Geez! :-P

So I understand.....

I am so glad you are somewhat OK! I hope you feel better!!!! :( Stay safe!

J....so sorry to hear that you got in an accident! Take care of yourself! And yes...I had this attachment about 15 yrs ago. We had JUST paid off my first brand new bought car...like a month prior to this, and on our way home from work at 5am (hubs and I worked together) we hit black ice and rolled 3 times into the woods (never hit a tree, thank God, and walked away mostly shaken and unhurt.) Car was totaled...and yes, that made me sad, cause we ended up having to buy a car that wasn't as nice, to replace it.

Hang in there and hope your pain subsides soon! Will be thinking of you!

BTW...I do feel your pain...for real. I have arthritis and scoliosis in my back and have had a broken neck (NOT from a car accident.) So, do take care of yourself!!

That stinks!

I hope YOUR neck & back are OK....I would be more worried about my health than the car...but...yeah...I've been attached to all of my cars--each in their own way.

I like to have control over the decision to get a new (er) car (I don't buy brand new cars) so I don't like when the decision is made for me.

Good luck!

oh, man sorry to hear you lost your loving car and your hurt.... :(

I do have a heart somewhere in my cold, judgmental body.
Don't really think I have had a great attachment for a vehicle, but I do have a severe attachment to my money. When I have to buy a new one, that hurts.

Oh yeah. I still miss my red VW Cabrio. I loved my convertible! I tell people I traded it in for a baby. It just wasn't the car to keep when I had a toddler in the backseat. Have a Golf now and it's good, very good, just not a convertible.

So sorry... Seems like I just posted about the issue of deciding when to stop putting money into an older car. THIS IS WHY. A few years ago when someone rear ended me and did 5000 in damage, my van was worth 12,000. But now it retails for 7,###-###-####. So if someone did 5000 in damage, the insurance company would refuse to pay to fix it.

I HOPE they can fix it at a rate the insurance company will pay for. If they don't know, it's because they are on the edge of that dividing line.

If they total it, they still fix it with used parts and resell it with a salvage title. I HATE that. They rob you blind and then take your car and make most of their money back. How is that right?

I can relate to your distress over your car, J.. We love our '89 Honda Civic that still runs almost like new, gets nearly 40mph, and is approaching 300,000 miles. I'm so sad for you! And your injuries – youch! I hope you're feeling back to normal soon. I'm glad it wasn't worse.

Our next car, assuming we ever have to give up our current ride, may be a hybrid or electric, if they become affordable enough. Possibly a Honda again.

I totally got attached to my 89' Cavalier it was the best go go car in the world... it was cherry red two door and had a rockin system. But well it had to go to the junk yard because I was 18 and it encountered some issues. Even though I tried replacing everything I could. Yes me and my step dad did everything to that car. Nobody else touched my baby. Eventually though she just cost me to much. I miss her...

Actually, I was just in an accident yesterday. I haven't had so much as a darn speeding ticket in the last ten years, and yesterday, I hit someone. No injuries and I didn't total mine or the other car, but there is significant damage to both cars. To top it all off, of all the thousands of people in my suburb I could have hit, I hit my husband's friend's mom....talk about humiliating! I am so thankful that she wasn't hurt! It was totally my fault and I've spent the last 24 hours in a total funk...and I hate driving my car around wrecked. It will probably be several days before it gets to the shop. The only positive that came out of this is that even though I hit a car that was going 45-50 mph (I was trying to get around a car and hit the car in my blind spot in the lane next to me), I barely felt it in my tank of a vehicle. I loved my Yukon before, but I love it more now, knowing just how safe it is for me and my family.
I hope you and your car feel better soon!
