Someone had a question about what church to visit and a lot of you suggested Northwood Church in Keller. We have visited there twice now and really like it. I have a question though.

We are use to Assembly of God or Non-Denominational churches. When we first visited Northwood we assumed it was one of the two but to our suprise it is Baptist. I have never been to a Baptist church like this. The worship was so AWESOME and people were raising there hands (which is what we do). Is this a different type of Baptist church? Not traditional? What is different from this church and an AOG?

Thanks in advance!

Angie

We too go to Northwood church and find it a refreshing place to be. The church is focused on community and the world. The pastor is a visionary and wants to see Jesus spread all over the world. This church is not a typical baptist church and is actually more like a non-demonational service. Really, does it matter what 'title' church we go to, as long as we can serve the Lord and be fed in the church we are doing good. You should go to the 'Base Camp' -new members class- at the church to learn more about Northwood. Were you there last Sunday (yesterday)? We were at both services- you probably saw my husband, our 3 mo. old daughter, and me in the front.
I am glad you found a church.

It's just a more contemporary baptist church. I noticed a lot of those in this area when we moved here. I have two past students who now help out with youth and tell me about it. We go to a non-denom church down the road from Northwood, and it sounds a lot like ours. It sounds like such a good church. I hope you've found a home there!

Alot of Baptist churches are getting away from super traditional atmospheres. They are leaning more to the contemporary side which is alot of praise worship. I honestly dont know how they differ. I was always told there wasnt much difference. All that matters though is that you are enjoying where you are and that you feel comfortable.

Hi,
I have a lot of friends in Northwood and yes, it is Baptist(I am a little more traditional Baptist). I can't compare and contrast too much because I don't know a whole lot about AOG.
I just want you to listen to the Spirit. While Baptist don't believe in speaking in tongues or slaying in the spirit like a lot of Chrismatic churches do, we do believe that the Spirit dwells in the Believer and yes, on occasion, the Joy of the Lord comes out in raised hands to praise Jesus, our eternal Savior. We believe we are all sinners and in need of a Savior. We believe the only way to heaven is Jesus. We do believe in God's son,the virgin born, sinless Jesus who died for our sins and rose again and paid the price for our sins so we could believe in his sacrifice for the remission of our sins and be born again (John 3), once, always and forever. We are baptised as believers (not as babies) to show our commitment to Christ. Once you have had that experience you understand what freedom in Christ is and what a wonderful Savior we serve and what a priviledge it is to serve him. We strive to serve and to worship in Spirit and in Truth, keeping our minds stayed on Him through His word. They have monthly classes through Northwood that give you a better understanding of what they believe. Call and get some information. To God be the glory, forever and ever, Amen

I attend a church very similar to Northwood in the style of worship. We are also a Baptist church. I agree with the first poster that a lot of Baptist churches are moving to a more praise oriented worship. I don't know a lot about AOG doctrine but I think the main difference would be the teaching on gifts and on the Holy Spirit. In my opinion, they agree on the important things...truth of Scripture, salvation, etc. (Not that the other isn't important, just not crucial to salvation). Honestly though, that is the extent of my knowledge of AOG teaching so others may have a better perspective.

We were members there , years ago, before we moved near Alliance and it was bible centered, and not so focused on denominational lines. The more we grow, and study the bible, the harder it is for us to state our "religion" we prefer Bible believing Christians . I love churches that you feel free to raise hands, pray in floor, etc and that certainly how this "Southern Baptist" girl was raised!

We loved their small groups in homes too, we made some lifestime friends from that!
