My children are kind of thin so they leaked through diapers before their weight required the next size. But as soon as they started leaking I moved up a size and it seemed to help everytime.
Does anyone else have a baby that has outgrown the capacity of a diaper before the actual size? I change my son regularly, but he overfills the diapers in one wetting. It seems that no matter what brand I buy this always happens. Any suggestions?
Thank you everyone for your responses. Even making sure he is pointing south he still overfills his diaper and the next size up would be too big and just cause a different leaking problem. We are going to buy some inserts to add to the absorbency and see how that goes.

I've always had to move up a size well before my son reached the weight limit of his diaper size and reached the lower limit of the larger diaper size. Upping a size is especially helpful at night. We used to have to change my son's diaper at night and wake him up otherwise he would have leaks, but since we started upping a size before he reached the upper limit, no more leaks. Also, from my experience (though it really does vary from child to child), Pampers are the best for boys and Huggies are the best for girls. I have also tried the cheaper brands and had lots of leaks so I pay more but never have leaks.
Yes! I have 3 kids. You can't go by the weight listed on the diapers, you can just go by how the diapers are working for your child. My 2 older ones, both girls, were always up a size before they hit the max weight on the diapter. My son, is following the line but he was a preemie. He still has leaks though because he is a boy and they tend to pee all up front so diapers don't always do the job, especially if they sleep on their stomachs. I don't use any of the major brand diapers. I use the seventh generation chlorine free ones and they work great.
I have a 3 month old little girl and I just wanted to say that I feel your pain and that I wish you luck and less laundry. I just keep repeating that this too shall pass.
Most likely your baby just needs a larger diaper, but if you notice that your baby continues to overfill diapers and is also drinking a lot of water, then you might want to have your pediatrician do a blood glucose test (testing for diabetes). A quick urine sample or finger prick will give you your baby's blood glucose level. Good luck!
Have you tried Luvs? I had a similar problem when my girls were younger and they worked. It seemed the "cloth like" outer shell of other diapers was where the problem was occuring and Luvs has a plastic outer shell. Not exactly eco friendly, but better then washing 8 sets for pants and a set of sheets everyday.
My suggestion is to give less water or milk before bedtime. Also they have these pads you can lay in your crib under the baby so it doesn't wet the actual bed at night. It saves the crib. But my biggest suggestion is to give less water at night. If this is happening in most cases you are giving too much liquid and not enough food. Because in most cases he will drink and pee drink and pee. If you are over doing the water he will over pee the diaper because a normal bottle or what not won't over fill it. I realized this with my daughter. I had the same trouble and started to cut back and it worked like a charm.
Have you tried Huggies Overnite diapers? I use them at night for my little one because they are more absorbent. You might try using them during the day.
With newborn through size 2 diapers, yes. After that no. I don't know if she overfilled them as they couldn't absorb quickly enough and were prone to leaks. With each bigger size, the problem decreased. My baby was basically born into Size 1 and went to size 2 soon after.
just remember that all these companie are just recomending things to you.
you are the defining athority.
i had the same problem with food, diapers, and clothes.
i typically go by the size of his bladder rather than weight. as i dont like cleaning.
go with what your gutt tells you it is usually the best thing to do.
We used Diaper Doubles for a while. They sell them in Babies R Us and they are relatively inexpensive. It is like a big maxi pad that you stick in there.
seems like opinions vary on which diaper is best. both of my boys have worn huggies and only huggies because they have fit the best. it really depends on your babies shape, though. both my boys also moved up to larger sizes before the packaging recommended. again, has everything to do with how your baby is shaped. 2 babies weighing the same don't look the same. and just because he's leaking, doesn't mean it's overfilled. could just be the size issue. i would recommend upping the size first and, if that doesn't work, try a different brand. you may be able to do some website searching and get some samples mailed to you so you can try different brands on w/o wasting money on a whole box. hope that helps!
My son did that when he was going through a growth spurt. We just used the next size up for a few weeks and then tried to go back to the size ones that fit better. I have heard of putting in diaper liners to hold the extra also. It is just a stage in growing.
It happened to me with my middle daughter. Seemed her diaper would be full almost right after I put it on. She's ok. Sounds like your son's bladder is growing a little faster than her body and that's not abnormal. Just go up a size.
Good luck and God bless!
Have you actually tried the next size up? Our daughter was always waking up wet and she was barely in a size three diaper according to their weight guidelines but we put her in a size four anyway and they work, a little bulkier, but no leaks!
There is overlap on the sizing (ex. one size says it goes to 26lbs but the size up says it starts at 22lbs). I have always had to go a size up about the time he reaches the size up start limit. I usuallly buy cheaper brands, but he outgrows Pampers a bit later than the cheaper ones. At night, it is good to go up a size too.
Whenever this would happen, I would move up a size. My daughter is wearing a size 6 Pampers Cruisers, for 37+ but she only weighs 25+. My hubby says that its cuz she has most of her weight in the butt. So go by what works best for you, and not necessarily the chart on the package.

Yes, go to the next size!
I so love you are encouraging a healthy home!!!
I have learned so much lately even our ladies pads have chlorine in them so I have changed pads for myself and my daughter is going to use chlorine free diapers on her baby!
