Bravado bras best for bigger busts-- comfy and last a long time. I got mine online-- you can do a general search. Good luck!
Hi, Mamas! I am due with baby #2 in mid-September, and it's about time to look for nursing bras. I'm new to this breastfeeding thing because I couldn't nurse my first one. Where do I go to fit a variety of nursing bras and figure out what's best for me? Oh, and I am quite large-breasted (DD before pregnancy), so they would need to have a variety of larger styles. Those of you mamas who are as "blessed" as I am in this department, what kind of nursing bras did you use and like, and which ones did you avoid like the plague, lol? Thanks in advance!

I am like you and I will just share this, don't bother with Sears, they just do not have enough larger sizes. I didn't realize that I was a G jamming myself into a DD after I had my daughter. Good luck, let us know where you go PLEASE because I will need the help when my #2 comes soon!

Great site with tons of options.
Here is their resource page, which has info about sizing for bras:

Check with the hospital's lactation consultant. At my hospital, she had a home business where she sold nursing bras, pumps, gripe water, etc... At minimum, a lactation consultant will know where to go in your area.
Have you tried Motherwear.com?
Try to go into a specialty shop to get fitted properly and try on a few bras. You could either buy them there or take note of the brand and style # and try to find them online. I'm large on top too, and for me I've got to try a bra on before I buy it because the fit can be so different from brand to brand or even style to style within a brand. As far as preference, I like the kind with the hook and eye better than the plastic clip, it just feels sturdier to me.
Oh - I've had such an issue with nursing bras. I'm a size DD or E, but a 34/36 which is hard to find and I can never get the straps short enough b/c the bra makers assume if you have large breasts, you're large all over and I'm not.
Also, I like padding and underwire which is hard to find (though they recommend you wait until 6 weeks or so to use underwire - though I didn't and had no problem making enough milk for twin girls!) My recommendation is to go to Destination Maternity (635 and Montfort) and get fitted and buy 2 nursing bras that feel comfortable -but are one cup size larger (I was a D before nursing). Then around 4 weeks or so you can assess how that nursing bra is working for you. I found my favorite at Target.com, Bravado Allure underwire.
Good luck!
This might be kind of a drive for you from Arlington, but I was told the Mother's Gift shop in the Presbyterian Plano hospital is great at fitting you for a nursing bra. I called yesterday and they said to come in around 38 weeks and they will fit you for one that will grow with you a bit...then come back after your milk comes in and they'll get you in another good one. They are open 10-5 M-F. ###-###-####. I'll be going late next week!
I loved the Bravado nursing bras that I used to BF, they were super comfy and flattering.
I have been breastfeeding for about 4 months. While I was pregnant I took a wonderful breastfeeding class that was offered at my hospital. The lactation consultants recommended only buying about 1 or 2 nursing bras since your breast size will likely change. I followed this advice and am so happy that I did. I only bought one bra while I was pregnant just so that I can have something right after delivery. Consultant also recommended Medela sleep bra and it is wonderful! I still use them till this day to sleep in. It is very light weight and comfortable (very important during hospital stay and for your first about 2wks at home) since your nipples might become sore. It has very easy access (all you have to do is lift the bra since it's stretchy) so that you can nurse your baby. They are about $20 at Babies R US...they are worth it! Later on, I didn't want to spend a lot of money on nursing bras so I purchased one at JC Penny (which you could probably find JC Penny coupon to use), one at Target, one at Motherhood maternity. Target has cute ones that actually have designs on them. I've had good experience with them all. Just FYI...breastfeeding can be difficult in the very beginning. It's all about getting baby to latch on correctly. Many people think they can't breastfeed and tend to give up (especially because it might be a little painful for the first 2 wks). The first 2 wks may be the most difficult but I promise it gets better and you'll soon be a pro!! Don't give up and ask for help from a lactation consultant...they're great. Good luck and best wishes!!
Do not think you have to be grounded to having a true nursing bra. I was hable to use the soft sided bras just fine. I just pulled one cup up over the breast when feeding. I did purchase I think 2 or 3 nursing ones from Bravado. They go up to an J cup for goodness sake... LOL... They all worked very well. Now I would be careful at purchasing any bra with underwire in it regardless of what others may tell you. We actually worry about the underwire causing plugged ducts leading to mastatis more than a milk production problem. Now do some women use underwire and get through it without any problems, well for sure. It is really a luck of the draw chance though. I know of other things people do to and just "Luck Out." So I would stay away from the underwire. Since you had problems the first time; do not know details to that though; have you considered not purchasing bras yet until you see how this works out? You then will have a for sure size as well. You can just use a soft sided standard bra or a sports bra until you see how it goes... Congratulations on your up-coming addition and KOODOOS for you to want to offer your baby the amazing gift of Mommy Milk.
I bought a nursing bra and took it back. I found that sports bras are the best. The straps easily come down if you can buy one with stretchy cotton material. I think theya re best, they offer tons of support and have no underwires to hurt swollen boobs.
I also recommend the Bravado nursing bras. I purchased 5 of these bras, used them thru two kids, and then passed them on to a relative. They are amazing, solid, easy to use, and will last for a long time.
I found a great sports bra with a racer back style. It made my breasts not feel as heavy and took a lot of pressure off my shoulders. I also like the sleeping nursing bras. These are both at motherhood maternity.
I could never find them in stores until I lost all my baby weight and then some and was in a smaller bra size (more like a DD). I was wearing 38G nursing bras most of the time after my first two children and found that Medela bras fit great and were really nice quality, but I had to order them online (pricey too). JC Penney carries them--you can get and get measured in a maternity store though so you know what size to order. The only thing I hated about the medela bras was that the clasp is really easy to release by putting pressure on it, but that meant that if I leaned over to kiss my kids in the grocery cart I always unhooked myself. :) If you have a smaller band-size for cup size it might be harder, but get fitted to save yourself on returns. Also, invest in a few soft-cup bras for home/weekends/sleeping and some nursing tanks for night. I leaked for at least 10 months with both of my boys and had to sleep with some support. You will get larger, so wait a bit to order bras until you start nursing.
Plan to invest some real money, but get some that are very comfortable and supportive--if you order them and try them on and do not LOVE them, send them back or you will regret it. I planned ahead to put out the money for enough good bras after my second child. I think a lot of larger-top women also like Bravado bras, but they are also a little pricey. Every once in a while you can get something like a D or DD in stores like Penney's (can you tell where I shop?) for a pretty reasonable price, but again make sure you are comfortable and have been fitted well. I also lost my baby weight fast so went from a 38 to a 34 for my band size, so don't go overboard, either. :)
I am a DD and did fine with the lace Target nursing bras. I also liked the nighttime bras from Motherhood Maternity. Congrats on the new arrival and for trying breastfeeding. It took me (and my baby) a little while to get the hang of nursing. Be sure to get support if it gets tricky.
I am also blessed in that department and have tried many bras from Motherhood, Target and all over. I found Bravado to be the most comfortable and to last the longest. I nursed both of my kids for a year. I'm now pregnant with #3 and I'm not even going to bother with any other brand this time! You order them online. If you Google you can usually find a coupon. And they have a great measuring and fit page on their site. As another mom said, watch the rib size. Unless you gained a ton of weight (100 lbs) you will probably want your pre-pregnancy rib size. I found that I lost rib size immediately as it was the baby pressure rather than weight gain making it bigger during pregnancy. I would also only order one or two before you have the baby. Then after a month or so, assess how they fit, remeasure and order what you think you need to get through the rest of your nursing time.
