I was wondering if there are any mom's out there that went to Apollo College Nursing Program or International Institute of America. Or if anyone knows someone who has. I am looking to go back to school to get my nursing degree after being a stay at home mom for 6 years. I have looked at the community colleges too, but found the International Istitute and you can finish school in 30weeks. Just wondering if anyone had ever heard of them.
Thanks

You need to check their accredidation. Also, ask around where you think you might want to work after graduation to see if they would honor that program. Not all of these schools are "real" schools and it could be tough to get a job. I'm finishing up the RN program at Scottsdale Community College this fall and I know, having an Associates Degree from an accredited college will gaurantee me a job anywhere I want. Check it out and good luck.

GCC seems to be the best way to go. Almost all the RNs I know had started at Glendale Community College. Also, what website do you go to for homeschooling? just need the info and would want to check into it.
thanks in advance for your reply. I wish you good luck and happiness in your endeavors.

Hi N.,

I too am pursuing my Nursing degree after being a stay at home mom for about 8 years now. I have checked out just about every school there is. I have a friend who is in the block 3 at Apollo right now. There are definitely pros and cons to going there. The pros: you can get in easier than the community colleges and University's. It's quicker and the pre-req's are included in the program. The cons: It's much more expensive and the credits only transfer to University of Phoenix, so if you plan to obtain a bachelor's or higher you are limited. My friend who attends Apollo has complained a lot about a specific teacher and the fact that it's really hard. But I imagine it's like that at any school.

It has been a hard road for me but one that I know will pay off. I have been taking my pre-req's through Glendale Community College for 2 years and am now in my last semester. I am currently applying at GCC, Southwest Skills Center, and Grand Canyon University.

Best of luck to you!! Feel free to contact me anytime! Also the website allnurses.com has been a valuable asset for me.

Hi I went to Pima Medical, and really liked them. It is a fast course, and it requires a lot of self discipline. You probably have the discpline thing down prety good if your homeschooling. What made you decide to do this? The homeschooling, does the state recogonize you, and does your child get the "credit" for it? How do you decide on a program to use? I am interested in homeschooling my 9 y.o. Thanks for your help, and good luck with your career. C.

I know you said you looked into the community college programs, but I have to put my vote in for the Glendale Community College weekend nursing program. My husbands in it and it's great! You only go to school and clinicals on Fridays and Saturdays. It's a two year program.
