So What Happened?

Hi, thanks to everyone for such a great response to my request! Overwhelmingly, I was told the Nutri-system food is awful, although there were a few that liked some of their dishes. I have been on WW, too, in the past, and had some luck with it, but it was hard to stick to it. I don't like to do complex cooking, and all that prep had me down. I believe I will try my own "nutri-system," and buy some Lean Cuisines at the store. They are bound to taste better than what everyone says Nutri-system tastes like, lol. The two major problems I forsee for myself are not learning to eat normally on my own cooking, and not eating the same thing my family is eating. Also, sweets are my big downfall. Again, thanks for all the help! Have a Happy New Year!

D.

Hi D.! I have not tried Nutri-system, but have tried WW. It worked for me as long as I attended weekly meetings - which I don't like to do. I also tried taking phentermine under my Dr.'s care - it works but it's NOT HEALTHY! What I am having tremendous results with is ISAGENIX. Have you heard of it? It isn't a "weight loss" program, but a cleansing and nutrition program. It's more affordable than Nutri-system or Jenny Craig type programs and even the Dr. & phentermine approach. AND IT'S HEALTHY! I am a dental hygienist, but have added ISAGENIX to my life and my income. I am a consultant now, and loving it! Please call if you would like to know more! S. Owens ###-###-####

To be honest the food is so - so, some okay some just bad. But if you stick to it, it works. I have a 1 and 2 yr old and I promised myself I would be back down to my pre-2 pregnancy weight since I gained quite a bit with 2 pregnancies back to back. Its hard but if you stick to it you can lose the weight. I went from a size 8/10 down to a 4. Its strict and its really hard with a family to eat separately. Just depends on how badly you want to do it. I think there are better options out there so look around. I have some food left that I would gladly let you try if you want before you take the big step. Good luck.

I tried it and I hated the food, and I am not picky at all when it comes to food. Too much sodium too. I do like my salt, but I've never had anything that salty. Later I learned they also have a low-sodium option, but it is among the a-la-carte, which means you cannot get it with the "cheaper" introductory package. After the 1st package you get to choose the food, and it won't be more expensive. But then again, it's pretty hard to know what to choose before you have tried all the stuff. Heh, I think I only liked two of the dishes. I still have some of the soups in my pantry that I just could not get down. You are very welcome to come and pick them up for free if you'd like to. Just send me a personal message. The portions are very small, and the cakes they show in the commercials - you only get about two of them for 5 weeks with the introductory package.

Hi D.,
I've never tried Nutri-systems but have tried WW and It really works as long as you stick w/it. You pretty much can eat anything as long as you stay within your points. I have lost 25 pounds pre-pregnancy and 60 after baby, which I am pretty happy about but still have more to go but with staying with it and exercise and motivation anyone can do it, you just need to put your mind to it.

Good Luck on whatever you decide.

I lost a lot of weight on it, of course I was single then and only had this food in my pantry - nothing else. With a family, I think it would be really hard. I don't know if it is still the same, but you would have to pour hot water over the hamburger patty to "fix" it - most people at work would gag when they saw me doing that, and looking back - it was pretty gross. Good luck!

The issue I have always found with any weight loss "system" is that it gives you the foods and schedule which basically does not teach anything about eating healthy, exercising and putting the right stuff into your body which in turn will then give up the excess weight naturally and permanently. My personal suggestion is to invest your money into the best RD you can find and get with a few friends to walk or exercise for 30-45 minutes each day. Family support is also very important. I've done this and also include an amazing vitamin supplement to go along with it all - which has allowed me to keep my energy up, keep the weight off and not have to worry about all the preservatives in pre-packaged "diet" foods.

Hi D.,

I've never trid NutriSystem personally, but I am pretty picky about my food and don't think I'd be able to eat the meals. This may not be what you're looking for at all, but I've done Weight Watchers (pre-two babies) and I had a lot of luck with it. I'm going to join again this year and am excited about the monthy pass they have - it makes it a little cheaper. I know some people are freaked out about the whole 'getting weighed in public' thing, but it's not like anyone knows what you weigh except you and the person weighing you, they don't show the numbers or announce it out loud. I couldn't do that!

Good luck!

I tried it last year and was disappointed because the food wasn't that great and then of course it was very expensive. Which when doing the math the prepackaged meals would probably be the same as your grocery bill but when you are also feeding a family you are still going to have a grocery bill on top of the nearly $300 a month on that food. Plus I wished they would have told you up front that you also have to supplement the diet with your own groceries so I really didn't like it mainly because of the expense involved.

I personally don't think the food is good at all. I've been on WW since Sept and weighed in this morning as a matter of fact - am down 30.8 lbs. This is my second go around with WW, I lost 67 lbs about 6 years ago with it, unfortunately I did gain it back BUT IT WASN'T WW'S FAULT. I went back to my old habits and boom there it was again. Now that I'm a little bit older and smarter (hopefully) I won't make the same mistakes again. I don't ever want to be almost 200 pounds again. I highly recommend WW, the monthly pass is 39.95 - to weigh in weekly is 12.00. The wonderful thing about WW is you learn how to eat normal food the correct way, so you should be eating what the rest of your family is eating. I've never understood about Nutisystem and Jenny Craig - what happens when you do lose all the weight eating their foods? Do you know how to eat regular food or do you eat their stuff forever? Best wishes on your weight loss this new year!

I've tried different 'systems' & programs in the past. My experience has been that you really need something that will help you learn how to eat 'regular' food that you prepare. It's all about making good choices, portion control, & physical activity. I am currently using an online program (www.vfl.com) to keep track of my eating & exercise habits. I am also taking the company's vitamins and eating their meal-replacement and fat-burning bars once a day. The cost is really quite low and the lessons you learn are invaluable. I'd be happy to tell you all about how its working for me. Feel free to email me at ____@____.com Luck!

Someone on Mamasource suggested a website called Sparkpeople.com a few months ago and I've been using it ever since. I was doing Weight Watchers at the time, and started using the site to log all of my food, my exercise and my goals. The site automatically tells you how many calories per day you should be eating and how much exercise per week you should have to get to your goal weight, as well as provides tons of articles, resources and message boards. When you log your food, it automatically calculates the calories for you, so there's no frustration with keeping up with numbers. And, I found that it was pretty much in line with my WW points (actually it allowed me to eat a little more than WW). I have been using the sight for about 8 weeks, but fell off the wagon for the 2 weeks around the holidays, and lost over 10 pounds (which doesn't sound like that much, but I went down almost 2 sizes and really toned up). I highly recommend it. Oh yeah - and it's totally free! It's truly an amazing sight.

My mom did it and it does work. However, I tasted the food and it is pretty bad. I think Jenny Craigs food tastes better. Good Luck and Happy New Year!

Hey D.,

Have you thought about trying Curves? It an excercise center and it is fairly cheap (about $30 a month for new clients). You work out 30 min a day for a minimum of 3 times a week. Of course like everything else I did not stick with it but it does work. I think the key to healthy weight loss is excercise. Good Luck!

I tried it for 2 months without much luck...it is still a lot of calories if you add the fruit/veggies etc. they tell you to add & it tastes awful. Personally I'd rather eat nothing but salad than have to eat that again. Like the other lady said, I also have left-over stuff taking up pantry space. If you're not a picky eater, give it a try. Good luck :)

I did not have much success sticking to the program. In fact, I still have quite a bit of Nutrsystem food that is just taking up space in my pantry. If you would like to try it out before committing to the expense of the full program, I would be willing to sell you the food I have left for cheap, just to get rid of it. If interested, e-mail me at ____@____.com and I I'll take inventory of what I have and send you a list and you can just make me an offer, if you like.

Hi D.. I've never tried NutriSystem, but I have a good friend who used it. She completely stuck to the program and lost a few pounds before a big vacation she was taking to Hawaii. So, she was happy with that, but as soon as she went off the program, she gained the weight right back. I represent Arbonne International and we have a fabulous weight loss program called "Figure 8." I know many people who are having great success on this system. It's all natural, safe, Vegan and good for you inside and out. I'd love to tell you more about it. I use several of the products myself such as the Detox Tea, Herbal Colon Cleanse, Weight Loss Chews, and dietary supplement. You can also check out my website for more info: www.mandyolsen.myarbonne.com. Good luck finding something that works for you! I think that's the main thing is that you find something that meets your likes and works with your lifestyle. As a busy, work-from-home mom, I need something easy and quick to maintain my weight. :) good luck!
