I have had a pretty rough road to recoving from child birth. I am finally at a stage where I am at my whits end. I have been bleeding for 11-15 days straight and then it stops for 2-5 days and starts back up for 11-15 days. This past week I started only bleeding in the morning and by 12-1 pm it stops till the next morning. I know this is really weird. I saw my doctor yesterday and she suggested either a D & C or to start the nuva ring. I had my daughter back in October 2006 and I have had to go throught physical thereapy just so my DH and I could have intercourse. Now I never want it becasue I just feel so bla about myself and I'm always bleeding. I also have endometriosis so if I have a D&C they could possibly try to clear some of that out. I had surgery to remove some of it removed but that was like 5 years ago. I just don't know if I want to go throught another surgery. But my husband and I do want another child so I don't want a hysterectomy. We had decided that we wouldn't try but that we would just leave it in Gods hands as to when we conceived another. So I'm not sure I want to go back on birth control becasue then we have to plan on when to stop taking it.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I tried the Nuva ring while I was waiting for the D&C. It did seem to help but I was afraid it would be short term, so I opted for the D&C I also had a hysterosocpy they wanted to go in look around and make sure there wasn't any cysts on the ovary's and to check on my endometriosis. It went really well, but I don't know if she found anything till I make an apt to go and see her.I am hoping now everything should be ok and Jake and I can think about having another child. Thank to everyone for the advise.

I use the nuva ring and I LOVE it! After having kids, I started taking 'seasonal'...but I had break through bleeding all the time. So, after a year of that, my doctor recommended the nuva ring - but to be used like seasonal. So, I insert a ring for 3 weeks, take it out, and immediately insert another. I do this for a total of 3 rings, then I leave a ring out for a week. My periods are light, and after the week, I start the cycle all over again. I love not having any break through bleeding, as well as only having my period 4 times a year! My recommendation is to try the nuva ring, and if it doesn't help your problems, then have the surgury!

I would strongly suggest you get your thyroid checked. Bleeding like this could be a symptom of thyroid disease.

I would suggest the D&C. I've never had one done, but I work in a hospital and see numerous done on a daily basis. It is a very common thing. If you are planning on adding to your family, the constant bleeding could also interfere with that... as for the birth control, it might take a lot of trial and error until you find something that works. The D&C will take less time to take effect. Only you and your doctor can decide what is best for you, but that is my suggestion.

Hi L., I was on the Nuva Ring for almost 5 years and LOVED it. I have endometriosis as well and this was my last step before a hysterectomy. I had very light and short periods and hardly any cramps-which was wonderful. I just caution you to be aware of one thing-my blood pressure went really high after about 4 years and I exercise and am not overweight. Went to every specialist imagineable and they couldn't figure it out. I happened to go to my OBGYN and he freaked out saying that is a possible side affect of the Nuva Ring, so he made me go off of it. I hated going off of it. So if your blood pressure for some reason goes high, just keep that in the back of your mind. I loved it-so easy, I never had a problem.

Good luck!!!

Hi L.,
I also have endometriosis and have been on the Nuva Ring. I was on the Nuva ring 6 weeks after having my son. I loved it but stopped using it because my insurance didn't cover much of it. However, if it came down to sugery or using the ring, I think I would use the ring. Then if the ring doesn't work, for whatever reason, you always have the option of surgery.

Good luck!
