I do not have health insurance and I'm pregnant; we had signed up for a program to help with prenatal care and it ended up being a scam that took our money so I still haven't been to the doctor. I need help finding a doctor I can get into a.s.a.p preferably within the H-E-B area that offer discounts for cash pay patients.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you so much to all of you! I am going to contact the doctors that were referred; I gave birth 8 months ago and my doctor's office didn't seem too willing to work with me because we don't have that hospital completely paid off yet due to a billing mistake by the hospital- they gave us a refund but then realized everything hadn't processed through!- (now we're on a payment plan.) It was also suggested that I apply for state coverage because I was denied through BCBS two weeks before we found out I was expecting. My previous two pregnancies were high risk; so a midwife isn't an option. I LOVE this site and am sending all my friends to join!

L., I don't know what my doctor's payment options are. But I do know that he is a good man. I have been going to him for 18 years and through 2 pregnancies. He is located near downtown Ft.Worth near the hospitals. His name his Dr. Fite, ob,gyn. Give his office a call at ###-###-####. It would probably take you 15-20 minutes to get there from the HEB area.

Hi L.,

Just want to second the vote for a midwife. I delivered my second with a midwife and the cost was about $3200, which included a discount for having paid in full before the 32nd week of pregnancy. I went to Special Beginnings in Grand Prairie.

There is a center called Special Beginnings that I think is right in Hurst. I have heard wonderful things about it.

My payment covered all pre-natal care (including 1 sonogram), delivery, 1 week check-up and 6 week check-up (with pap smear).

Good luck!

I am in a similar situation. Fortunately I went with a midwife for my previous birth and found the situation to be so much safer and healthier than a hospital birth that now I'm very comfortable doing the same thing this time around. I have Humana One, which doesn't cover maternity care, but will cover any emergencies. For my last baby we ended up paying about $3200 for everything. That was less than I paid for my first birth in a hospital with insurance. And there were way less complications and issues.

I was uninsured for awhile and found that ALL doctors are willing to give discounts for cash because it cuts out a HUGE amount of work for them. I would call around and find out how much a visit would be and what the discount is they are offering. Good luck!

two thoughts--Although not in the HEB area, my doc, Larry Tatum does a cash paying discount. I have health insurance but after I was already a patient, I was no longer 'network' so I'm treated as a cash payment. He is based at Baylor All Saints near downtown FW.

I also read a comment about considering a midwife. A friend of mine just had a baby at a birthing center in Dallas with a midwife (dr available if needed). Much cheaper for the facility as well as the doc/midwife services. good luck!

L., first of all...congratulations! I'm sorry you had a bad experience with a scam program. I recommend a very good company, AmeriPlan. They have several physicians in your area. For only $29.95/mo you can get discounts of up to 50% on doctor visits, up to 80% on labs and save even more on your hospitalization using the hospital advocacy with AmeriPlan. Through AmeriPlan the doctors and hospitals will work with you on a payment plan, as well. For more information go to www.DNShealth.net. Also, taking care of your teeth and gums is extremely important when you are pregnant, so for only $10 more you can add the dental plan to your health plan and get discounts of up to 80% off dental procedures, as well as similar discounts on vision care and prescription drugs. I will be happy to answer any questions you may have - just call ###-###-####

L., it's been 2yrs since I had my twins, but I had no insuarnce at the time and my OBGYN did give me a cash discount if I paid a certain percentage in advance, by a certain week of the pregnancy, and then I was on a payment plan for the rest. I'm not sure if they still do that, but it wouldn't hurt to ask. They are in Arlington right across from Arlington Memorial Hospital at Cooper and Randoll Mill. It's Dr. Glenn Saunders. His P.A. is Kaye Moore, and she is wonderful. She saw me all throughout both of my pregnancies and then Dr. Saunders just came in for the final week and delivery! It was great! Never had any problems with their office. Their phone # is ###-###-####. Good Luck! J. D.L.S.

Planned Parenthood may be able to help they will help you with the doctor as well as the delivery. You will be able to deliver at the hospital close to you. I think they also will set you up with a doctor for the baby when he or she is born.

We were in the same boat...just had our daughter in Oct. Since we were paying ou of pocket for the hospital and doctor visits/delivery, we decided to "pick" where we wanted to deliver. After touring Grapevine, North Hills, and Harris Methodist HEB, Harris Methodist won hands down.

Next, I had to find a doctor. I went with Dr Cipriano afer visiting with a few and fell in love with all the doctors in her office. Dr Valerie actually ended up delivering our daughter and LOVE, LOVE, LOVE her!

Their number is ###-###-#### and they have a discounted pay plan for the non-insured...we have Humana One for major medical, but didn't cover maternity.

We got on a discounted pay plan with the hospital as well.

I chose Dr Olivo as our pediatrician - right next door to Dr Cipriano. Her number is ###-###-####. I LOVE her as well. She is a Pediatrician as well as Family Practice, so I see her to.

Feel free to give me a call at ###-###-#### if you have any questions. Like I said, just went through all this myself and had no idea how expensive it was going to be. I'm 40, so they considered me a high risk. I visited with a specialist and had a number of sonograms that were an additional charge.

L.,
Have you considered a midwife? They are cheaper than the doctor/hospital route and, if you have a normal pregnancy, they have better outcomes. Just a thought. They aren't covered by health insurance anyway, since insurance is the biggest scam of all since it doesn't cover actual "health" care, but only covers "disease" care.
Good luck.
