OB/GYN Good or Bad??

I recently had an outpatient surgery (last Friday) at Baylor Grapevine....a D&C. My OB/GYN never came back to speak to me after surgery, nor did she go talk to my husband, who was patiently waiting in the waiting room for her to tell him I was out and everything was fine. Is the normal? Is this surgery so common, that its no big deal to let the patient know whats going on. The nurses, who were great, didn't say anything about her having some sort of emergeny elsewhere. Just wanted to know...it kind of irritated me, knowing the weekend was coming and the offices would be closed, especially for someone who has never through this!

What can I do next?

Hi M.,
I think that that is unprofessional, rude and just plain ridiculous! If you are blessed with a full term pregnancy, I would switch Doctors.

My Dr. personally delivered both of my boys even though the other two ladies in her practice were actually on call. She even left a special dinner with her parents to deliver my second.

I am sure that this experience was very traumatic for you and your husband, I am sorry that you were treated so cold!

I agree with the prior posts, seems awful unprofessional... and really rude. They need to keep your transportation (in case it wasn't your spouse -- just WHOMEVER is there to give you a ride home if it was outpatient) in the know... I remember when my DH had surgery on his nose for a deviated septum. They gave me a status update midway through the surgery (nurse) and the doc came out and talked to me afterwards. They also did about 2 follow up calls at home...

M.,

I'm sorry you were treated so poorly. I go to an OB/GYN in that area. You may not want to say, but I'm curious what doctor? I only ask because I haven't been thrilled w/ mine lately and wondered if it could be the same one. Hope you are feeling a bit better today :)

I am sorry that your doctor wasn't more professional and reassuring than that... I go to Dr. Barbara Webster and I truly love her and her entire staff! She is in Bedford and is affiliated with Harris HEB. She is wonderful! Very patient and informative. Hope you feel well soon!! Take good care!

I would not be impressed with this behavior at all! It sounds like this Dr. has forgotten the human element to medicine. You are just a career to her. I don't know why you had the D&C but if it was for a miscarriage I definitely think she should have been a little bit more caring for both you and your husband during this time.

No it is not normal for a doctor not to talk to you after any procedure. You should go ahead and call her and ask the questions that you need answered. You can also complain to her office manager and other doctors that may share an office with her. It may not be the first time this dr. has done that!

M.,
your relationship with your OB is a very personal one and most Dr's don't treat thier patients so cavalierly. Giving her the benefit of the doubt perhaps she had a room full of patients or was paged for an emergency at another hospital and ran. I would ask her why she didn't come in and speak with you or your husband. If you aren't satisfied with the answer you may consider leaving this practice. Have all of your dealings with her been this way? A D&C is a very emotional albeit physiologically quick procedure for some and a visit by the hospital chaplain is in order to help you resolve the issues that necessitated the procedure. If you haven't spoken with someone I would be happy to chat with you privately. Please feel free to email me at ____@____.com

Dr. Thomas Fliedner is in the Lewisville/Flower Mound area and he is the best OB/GYN I have ever seen. I am a Labor and Delivery nurse in the DFW area, so I have seen alot of them. This man is wonderful. His office number is ###-###-#### or ###-###-####.
