Odd Sized Clothing

My Daughter is 3 1/2 years old and is in an odd size pant. I really dont even know what size she wears because nothing fits her. MOst of the pants she wears now show her bottom everytime she bends over, or are just too tight. She is larger than most kids her age so she needs pants that are bigger around the waist, but still short in the leg. I refuse to make her wear stretch pants. Does anyone know of a store that sells odd sized clothing, or has elastic band waste jeans?

What can I do next?

I know Old Navy has clothes that have adjustable elastic waist bands, but they are for kids, starting at size 5. Could you just buy ones that are too long and then either roll them up or hem them?

My 3 year old just got a pair of pants from Kohl's for Christmas that are Mudd I think and they have ALOT of stretch and adjustable waist! We buy all of our jeans at Gap, she is tall and we need the adjustable waist. Like some of the other responses I love the leggings under skirts and dresses or even just knee socks, I just bought some at Target. Almost everywhere has come out w/adjustable waist now, good luck!

Also OshKosh, Levis, and Carters have some jeans with adjustable elastic bands inside. You could try capris in a larger size, although they might be hard to find this time of year. Or skirts and dresses with thick warm tights. You could by a larger size and then have them hemmed at the dry cleaners.

My neighbor had the same problem with her daughter, so she bought capri's for her in a larger size, they fit at the waist and hit her in length like normal length pants. This time of year you could try e-bay and online clearance to find some.

Walmart & Old Navy both have the adjustable waist pants with buttons and elastic in the waist. I just got a pair of jeans for my 3 year old and they have stretch to them and the waist band. When my other daughter was having that issue, I bought a bunch of leggings and tights and she wore them under knit skirts until we got to another size. It's in fashion right now, so you may want to try it!

I have had the same problem with buying pants for my son, I was able to find jeans for him at The Children's Place with adjustable waistbands I have also found some of the same types of jeans at Target that has the adjustable waist. My son is so tall for his age and very skinny so his waist and length in his jeans are never the same. Hopefully this helps.

J.,

Unfortunately pretty much all girls jeans have gone low riders, that goes for womens jeans too! I have the same problem and it's quite annoying for us 40 somethings. My almost 3yr old daughter (January 20th) has the same problem and she is skinny as a rail. I get most of her jeans at Target or JCPenney they have adjustable waist pants. I have to go a size bigger in order to fit in the length because she is tall for her age, so it makes the waist a bit big that's why I like the adjustable waist. I believe Old Navy also carries adjustable waist. Good Luck J. C

Well if your daughter is like mine the pants others are talking about with the elastic waist you can take up dont work for her. If we buy them to fit in length (she isnt very tall) the elastic waist is at last button and still too small around the waist. I have just found that Walmart and Pennys now have a "plus size" in the kids section. When my stepson was small they called this "husky size". At walmart it was like 5 regular plus but dont remember what they were called at Pennys. Good luck I know its frustrating.

We have the same problem with our 6 year old. We're still trying to figure out what work best. Children's place has been pretty good- most pants have an adjustable elastic waists. We have resorted to some stretch pants and tights- under dresses and skirts seems to be a popular trend. We've also had to buy pants to fit her booty and take in the waist (last resort!).

I'd be interested to hear the suggestions you get!

Hi J.,

It seems to be a problem for everybody! :) Even me and I am fit and thin, is the low low rise.... I just got some jeans in different colors at Target with elastic and adjustable waist for my 3 1/2 years old girl, I got 4's and they have until 5 in the toddler seccion and 4 and up in the girls seccion.

Always check the waist for buttons and elastic, I was surprised that many comes with this feature, Gap has them too but more expensive. Even some at Walmart and Khols, it deppends on the brand.

Good Luck!
